In fairness to mtierney, she is mostly unaware of the 2000 lies Trump has told us this past year.

Reporting his lies is not exactly Fox News's highest priority.

OTOH, she ostensibly reads the Times which does report on them.

okay, never mind.

Where is this list?

False or misleading claims are not lies.  Get your facts straight before writing a false or misleading claim

If the intent is to deceive, then "false or misleading claims" are practically the dictionary definition of lies. I'm pretty sure that he knows what he is saying is false or misleading, so... Yeah. Lies. 2000 of them, at least. That we know of. Chances of more than that are extremely high.

Probably more.  But I still think dummerboy should not mislead

According to Merriam-Webster, being misleading IS one of the dictionary definitions of lying.

LIE
lied
lying play \ˈlī-iŋ\

1: to make an untrue statement with intent to deceive She was lying when she said she didn't break the vase.  He lied about his past experience.
2: to create a false or misleading impression Statistics sometimes lie.  The mirror neverlies.

Yes. I looked it up too.  I make the false claim that the Earth is flat, I am not telling a lie

Do you want me to believe that it is flat? Then you are lying to me.

This is one of those silly "liars paradox" things, right?  "I am now telling a lie" or something like that.

Disagree.  If I believe the Earth is flat I am not lying.

I guess those of us who are saying Trump has lied 2000 times this year are giving him more credit for actually knowing stuff.  Or not being delusional.

Good point, as in order to lie you must have the intent to deceive the listener/reader, which is hard to do when you don't know that your statement is false.

is it possible that Trump is unaware that unemployment has been trending down for about 7 years?  Is he unaware the stock market rose 140% during Obama's term?  Is he unaware that the monthly private sector job creation numbers have been as good as they were in 2017 for years?  I don't buy it.  I believe he knows all this, and he is purposely misleading his base to take credit for a long term trend that precedes his time in office.

I don't buy that he doesn't know many of these facts.  If he truly believes everything he says and everything he tweets, it's as bad or worse than lying.  In some cases it really would call into question his grip on reality.

although it has been rumored that no one really voted for President Trump other than me, the Times today published a full page of pro-Trump letters. I don’t understand why they will also publish anti-Trump letters tomorrow (as it has consistently done for a year).

Obviously people voted for Trump.  Its just that a couple million more people voted for HRC.

those letter are tough to read.  It's like some of those people are living on a different planet.

Hi, mteirney,

Do you have time to answer my question?

Here it is, again:

So why don't you just answer?

You believe:

mtierney said:

It began with the politicized rewrite of the events leading to the deaths of four Americans in Benghazi. HRC lost in 2016 due to events ignited in 2012. In that this thread politically follows what is happening in Washington, its focus is government.
Our current issue, actually,  is the orchestration of hate for one person, the president, by angry liberals. Admittedly, DJT is a larger than life target, but he is who he is. And he is our President.

I believe:

It is the orchestration of hate for one person, Hillary Clinton, by angry Conservatives.
And Hillary Clinton was and is certainly " a larger than life target" as former First Lady, Senator and Secretary of State. In fact the President is still talking about her.

My question is:

Do you at least understand my point of view?

No, they live on our planet (which is round), but they lack an understanding of cause-and-effect, and some basic factual knowledge.

Seriously, can they and we continue to live and function in the same Country?

every time I hear one of these Trumpsters, they invariably come off as shallow, gullible and ill-informed.

Are they really all like that, or is it reflective of some kind of elitism on the part of the reporters where they only choose to show us the ones we can laugh (or cringe) at?

I honestly don't know for sure, but I kind of think that they're mostly just clueless.

And a note for mtierney - since Trump's election, the Times and just about every other major news organization has spent countless hours going to Trump's America to find out what they're thinking.

They did the same thing after the Tea Party made their gains in 2010.

They never do that kind of reporting when a Dem wins, much less completely turn over their Op-ed pages to them. So try and reconcile that with your "liberal media" belief.

Did they incorporate in Delaware to pay a porn star hush money like Michael Cohen?

do you think that's an acceptable excuse for his behavior?

A little accurate satire -

Dear God:

Although we here at Farrar Straus and Giroux always appreciate a deft political satire, your latest effort along these lines is, I’m sorry to say, not something that interests us at this time.

Because we have had a long and fruitful working relationship, I’m going to speak candidly, so as not to waste any more of your time (infinite though it may be) and ours: As it now stands, TRUMPED UP would simply be an embarrassment to your existing oeuvre.

The latest draft chapter you’ve submitted, “Stormy Weather,” was frankly difficult for me to read all the way through. For one thing, the central plot point — the reality TV president ends up having paid a six-figure settlement to a porn star to cover up his affair with her at the time that his new wife was pregnant — is just incredibly over the top. I mean does she have to be a porn star? How about a regular actor, or maybe even — perish the thought — a professional woman?

And the narrative details! She spanks him with a copy of Forbes?!? Does the phrase “heavy-handed” mean anything to you any more? You used to be so much better than this.

Also, the business about how he told her she reminded him of his daughter was tasteless in the extreme.

Although I don’t want to overstep my editorial bounds by lecturing the Lord God, Creator of Heaven and Earth, and of All Things Seen and Unseen, I must gently remind you that, to be both aesthetically pleasing and rhetorically effective, a satire must retain some minimal degree of plausibility.

Cordially,

Delbert Grady

What is being said in the Rose Garden? What's happening in Washington?
