Today's Google Doodle

Don't forget the Riverdance shamrocks...

ICC Cricket World Cup - Australia vs. Pakistan

Today's Google Doodle pays tribute to the 81st anniversary of the publication of the infamous "Surgeon's Photograph" of the Loch Ness Monster, which was published in the Daily Mail, on April 21 1934 - a photo that was revealed to be a fake by The Sunday Telegraph in 1975.

Today, April 25th 2015, marks the 100th anniversary of the ANZAC landing at Gallipoli.

marksierra, thank you for this - I hadn't yet seen this one, but had been very impressed by the day before's in honour of Ngaio Marsh, the Kiwi mystery writer.

Contrary to the article's statement, I saw the doodle on google in Australia, on both .com and .com.au versions.

Yes, the Ngaio Marsh version was showing in Australia.

Maybe Google doesn't know the difference between Kiwis and Australians.

She was a great hit in the UK as well, I would have expected some acknowledgement there...

Do you know if they're covering Gallipoli in the UK as well? Given royal presence at the battle ground.

It doesn't appear to be - this image (below) was captured a few moments ago, just before 1500 our Aussie time.

But then, I don't think the Brits covered themselves in much glory over the Gallipoli campaign.

What's the date/time over there?

If, by 'over there', you mean Britain, then it's time for more arithmetic or visualisation of clock faces.

Eastern Australia (in our winter) is 10 hours ahead of Greenwich (UTC).

However, the Brits are presently enjoying Summer Time, which puts them 9 hours behind us.

So at that stage they were still the 24th not 25th.

Just checked, still not 'doodled'.

I checked when it was definitely the 25th in Pommyland, and there was no ANZAC-related doodle to be seen.

What I forget to check for was whether the Kiwi Google was ANZAC themed.

Snort...now I'm so confused!

I find it so amusing when you two get into Aussie chats here.  oh oh

Lol!

Often the Canadians, and the Kiwis who lurk or who pretend to be USian join in. Then it's really fun! oh oh

The ANZAC-theme doodle also appeared in New Zealand as well, it seems.

So, Saturday was also Ella Fitzgerald's birthday and Uruguay's National Day...Fancy that!!

It was also Penguin Awareness Day.

Be aware OF penguins, or 'penguins, becoming aware'? cheese

Oops!  It was World Penguin Day!

Today's Doodle - which is a static image - commemorates the 175th anniversary of the Penny Black, which was the world's first adhesive postage stamp used in a public postal system.

It was issued in Britain on 1 May 1840, for official use from 6 May of that year and features a profile of Queen Victoria.

Not a Doodle, as such.

The link goes is an advertisement for the Star Wars movie series on Google.

(it's already May the 4th in my part of the world)

Bartolomeo Cristofori, is credited with inventing the modern piano.  He was born 360 years ago, on the Fourth of May, 1655 and died in 1731.

If you click on the Play symbol, the Doodle shows the hammer mechanism hitting a string.  You can also move the slider control on the right hand side between p (piano) and f (forte), with volume of the tune changing accordingly.

Ack. You beat me to it!

I adore Cristofori's music, the delicacy of his compositions and the sparkly quality of the pianoforte that he manages to highlight.

And of course, the Lanz album...

I came here to post about this but I see that marksierra and jamie beat me to it!  Did you notice what else happens when you slide the volume control?

It's Mothers' Day in Australia. There's a sweet animated Doodle on Google.com.au  - check it out.

Not here in the states apparently.

We got to see the Magna Carta on display at the US Constitution center years ago when it was on tour. It was kind of awe-inspiring. But hard to wrap one's head around.
