The worst movie you've ever seen...

Age of Adaline. The worst. I couldn't finish it. IMO Blake Lively is a horrible actor, and the story was really stupid, too.

Well, I hate all of the Batman movie franchise. The way they portray Gotham, I don’t think it’s worth saving.  ::sigh::

Including the 1966 release? It was the perfect antidote to Let It Be, which my campus’s Student Union showed it with for a “B” movie night in 1983. (There was a third film, but I forget what it was. Not The Swarm.) Those college film geeks were a clever bunch.

I was talking about "recent" ones--1989 on...

Can I add really bad kids’s movies? Jurrasic School. Not even sure if it was on Netflix or Showtime. It was so bad but at least my son is great when it comes to bad movies. He says all the stuff we’re thinking”This acting is horrible! Look at the fake puppet, what the heck?”

And Norm of the North. At least it was a discount price day and I got a napoh oh

DeNiro has been coasting for years, but I don't know why Norton picks such poor movies. He was one of my favorite actors, but he seems to have made a wrong turn somewhere.

Stone on Netflix. Robert DeNiro and Edward Norton. What can go wrong, right? I mean great actors.Wrong!  It’s like watching a derailing train in slow motion. The extent of my disbelief was astounding, but I just couldn’t look away. I kept hoping for something to turn it around, no such luck. What would compel these two amazing actors to do this movie is a mystery to me.

I suppose they all have bills to pay. Not everyone can make a movie and then go live on a farm and emerge every 5 years to make another great movie, rinse repeat.

If DeNiro has bills to pay, he must be living like an emperor.  The guy has probably made as many movies as anyone who has ever worked in Hollywood.  He should not be hard up for cash.  His career for the last 20 years or so shows a complete lack of respect for his craft and legacy.

That's a bit harsh, but yeah, he certainly has not distinguished himself in his later career. Very disappointing. And I agree, I can't imagine he's hurting for money.

Though I respect and admire his best performances, you have to admit that those roles don't exhibit much range. He's kind of always playing the same guy, more or less. He did it very well mind you, but the truly great actors leave a trail of diverse performances. He's not done that.

(geez, I just checked his filmography. I had no idea he's been in so many movies in the past ten years. I've missed pretty much every one of them. )

I also really enjoyed Age of Adeline. Just out of curiosity, marylago, what are a few of your favorite movies? You know, for context.

I used to like seeing Ray Liotta. Now I see him in the most random unexplainable roles.

I used to rank DeNiro with Robert Duvall, not anymore. Duvall has maintained legendary status IMO.

Whaaaaa? I adore that movie! Thought it was sweet and fantastical. Awww....

To just name a few--I could go on forever: Casablanca, All About Eve, Singin' in the Rain (saw that last year on the big screen--that was fun), Shawshank Redemption, Star Wars (the original three), Raiders of the Lost Ark and Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade, The Thin Man (so corny), Rear Window (pretty much anything Hitchcock, really), Groundhog Day, Princess Bride (will watch that any time it is on), Pride and Prejudice (all of them-film and TV, although the one from 40 is a little clunky but it has Laurence Olivier and Greer Garson), the Blind Side. There have been a lot of recent movies I've loved but that didn't keep me drawn to them; I didn't want to watch them over and over.

AMC's (Tim Dirks) list of the top 100 movies: http://www.amc.com/movie-guide/tim-dirks-top-100

I've seen at least 90 of them.

Hmmm... I've never seen The Blind Side but I love pretty much everything else on your list.  Weird about Age of Adeline....

Did NOT like The Blind Side. Not even a little. Was like a bad afterschool special.

There's a movie about Nikola Tesla which might be on Netflix. I think it was made in Czechoslovakia. The acting is almost as if it's an example of how not to act. It's worse than Reefer Madness. I like Tesla's life story, but my wife and I were not able to tolerate the entire film.

Reefer Madness is in the category of "It's SO bad that it's good/funny".

A friend (now my BIL, actually) was the Friday night film chair for several years when I was in college and included it on the list every year.  (Along with other classics including the Bugs Bunny favorite - "What's Opera Doc?".)

Sandra Bullock is waayyyyyy overrated as an actress.  Just saying.

I love her.

I didn't see The Blind Side, but I like Sandra Bullock, especially her comedies.

Sandra with Melissa McCarthy in "The Heat" is HILARIOUS. Sandra was really good playing the goofy roll.

This thread reminded me of one of the (maybe two?) movies I have ever walked out of, and I challenge anyone here who remembers it and liked it - The Other Side of Midnight.  A Sidney Sheldon mess and I think the only redeeming value was Susan Sarandon, but I bet she denies any involvement.

Trivia time!

According to the documentary Empire of Dreams, the book's popularity was anticipated to translate to success at the box office, and 20th Century Foxheavily promoted the film. At the same time, the studio was promoting Star Wars, which was gaining controversy for its growing expense.

Fearing that Star Wars would flop, the studio made a peremptory decision to grant prints of The Other Side of Midnight—a 2-hour-45-minute-long feature with sex and nudity—only to those theaters that agreed to book Star Wars as well.

Ultimately, despite critical acclaim, The Other Side of Midnight proved to be bested in the box office. Although a modest hit, its success was "nothing like Star Wars": Despite a higher budget, Star Wars ultimately grossed a then-record $237 million in North America in its first run and eventually spawned a multimedia franchise that continues to this day; The Other Side of Midnight earned $18.4 million in North American rentals.[3]

I see it also featured that great, great character actor Michael Lerner, so maybe there were two exceptions.

And now I know why — a scheduling conflict — Michael Lerner wasn’t cast as Han Solo.

Again, I REALLY didn't like The Blind Side, but I agree about Sandra Bullock in general. Ironic to me that, with so many wonderful and lovable performances, she'd win an Oscar for a role that -- imho -- could've been played by any of a thousand different actresses.

Or Michael Lerner.

My apologies to Stanley Kubrick fans but I thought Eyes Wide Shut was pretty bad.

Discussing Bullock reminds me of how much I disliked "Crash."  I'm not going to say it competes for worst movie of all time dishonors but its surely one of the most undeserving Oscar winners of all time.

I liked Crash a lot, though I watched it years after it won the Oscar, so I didn’t have a basis upon which to judge its worthiness. With that said, I think the rare occurrence (as far as I’ve seen) is for an actor or picture to win the Oscar in the year in which it’s most deserved.

It’s as if there’s a bank of Oscars with named winners just waiting to be strategically or haphazardly placed to make up for when they were “robbed”. That’s a whole other thread.

I actually can't think of the worst movie I've ever seen. I wonder why that is? I rarely watch a movie "blind", i.e. without knowing anything about it. Maybe that's the trick.

Definitely. Whenever I've read reviews before seeing a movie I have found it to be a mistake.
