So the middle of a common abbreviation for "too long, didn't read" looks like and emoji to the software

Discussion: Rose Garden and White House happenings: but which party will win? GOP. DNC, or the NSDNC?

Paul Krugman made this observation about Trump's speech last night. It was of course horrifying to see him setting out the first step in his plan to interfere in the election.

But anyone listening from the beginning heard this outrageous introduction:

Trump Can't Get No Respect

His biggest lie wasn't about elections

Donald Trump surprised me last night. I expected to hear lurid lies about the 2020 election. What he offered instead was mostly dreary innuendo that convinced nobody.Which is not to say that his speech was free of lies. Indeed, more or less every word he spoke was a lie, including “a,” “and,” and “the.” But the most spectacular lies weren’t about U.S. elections. They were at the beginning, when Trump boasted about America’s place in the world. Here’s the part that caught my eye:

"We had transgender for everybody, men in women’s sports, crime ravaging our cities, and the whole world was laughing at us as a nation, but not anymore. Two years ago, our country was dead. Now, we are the hottest country anywhere in the world. America is respected like we have never been respected before."

In reality, one of the most spectacular consequences of Trump’s return to power and the mess he has made since has been a collapse of global respect for America. The chart at the top of this post is from Pew’s Global Attitudes Survey, but you don’t need a formal survey to know that the world increasingly despises the U.S. Just travel overseas and talk to people.

This has actually been a good thing for Canada.  The Canadian hospitality sector has been delighted to offer its services to the people of the globe who would like to come to North America but have no interest in spending money in the US.

Of course, it is a two way street.  Lots of Canadians who would have been traveling to the US now choose to spend their loonies in Europe or Mexico.

You spend your loonies, we elect ours.

Discussion: Patient Portals - the latest, useless medical nonsense.

What portal?  Summit Health uses Athena and I've found it to be pretty good.

Atlantic's "My Chart."  When I visit a new provider and they ask for email, I explain to the clerk that I am being  treated for high blood pressure and since patient portals raise my blood pressure, It is not a good idea for me to sign up.

The clerk moves on to the next question.

In case anyone thought the left the barbecue burning last night — here is an explanation for our cloudy skies…

I never thought it was the left.

I was going to make a joke this morning about Republicans deliberately ignoring the wildfire alerts because they hate being told what to do (just like the Mamdani AC 78 degrees thing) and, well...

they really would do almost anything to troll the libs. How many of them trolled themselves into early graves in 2021 by refusing a COVID shot?

As long as one can justify law breaking as “a drop in the bucket,” Perhaps you can sleep at night. Me, not so much.

Nobody is buying the idea that any human misery, other than maybe your own, keeps you up at night, mtierney.
