Easiest fix in the world for SS would be to raise the cap on income subject to tax.

It's like everyone gets stupid with regard to taxing any higher incomes. "OMG we need to search high and low for a solution to this complex conundrum!"

Just raise the cap. Done.

This has actually been a good thing for Canada.  The Canadian hospitality sector has been delighted to offer its services to the people of the globe who would like to come to North America but have no interest in spending money in the US.

Of course, it is a two way street.  Lots of Canadians who would have been traveling to the US now choose to spend their loonies in Europe or Mexico.

You spend your loonies, we elect ours.

Jeff have you asked the fire department if they can assist in determining the source of your presumed gas leak with detectors they have?  I know on routine calls fire dept. here arrives with a wide range detection capability.

The footage of doddering Trump trying to join the Spanish team at the end of the game was golden.  He seemed honestly befuddled as he tries to participate in lifting the trophy, apparently forgetting that just a week a go he was calling Spain a "horror show" and it's people "losers".

Mtierney, thank you for worrying about my retirement.

The author you’ve quoted forgot to note some major considerations:

- I’ve retired with modest but quite comforting superannuation, in an industry fund. (HESTA, for the health-related/social services sector)  I can ask HESTA any question at all, and they’ll answer.  I pay minimal fees for their work, I’ve had very modest admin fees with them.  (Our super funds are highly regulated and audite because of some unscrupulous fraud funds in the past)

-  I also receive a federal aged pension, which is indexed against Hubby’s salary.  (Yes, I married a slightly younger man who is still working full-time)  My pension includes a rent support payment, for the house we rent.

- I also receive senior discount on public transport (actually in my region, seniors get free off-peak travel), fresh produce (check out Harbour Town Fruit and Veg), clothing, domestic assistance and more

-  About 3 months ago I qualified for the pharmaceutical ‘safety net’ which means most of my medications are free.  I pay only $7.70 for one monthly migraine med (Ajovy, which I self-inject).

- I see my family doctor for free,  I’m reimbursed most of the fees when I see my specialists, and all hospital visits and procedures are free.  Because I’m on the pension.
Oh!  I’ve just remembered!  We get senior discounts on car registration, energy bills (electricity, gas), bank fees etc  AND  huge discounts at the movies.  Some restaurants give discounted bills;  the local sports clubs, gyms, aquatic centres etc also give me huge discounts. Airlines give me discounts and perks;  I get seniors discount on cruises.

Using my discounts keeps other people in employment, and helps the economy grow.  I’d say I’m pretty fortunate,  and so are others like me.  🤓

Discussion: Patient Portals - the latest, useless medical nonsense.

What portal?  Summit Health uses Athena and I've found it to be pretty good.

Atlantic's "My Chart."  When I visit a new provider and they ask for email, I explain to the clerk that I am being  treated for high blood pressure and since patient portals raise my blood pressure, It is not a good idea for me to sign up.

The clerk moves on to the next question.
