Windows10

Any recent experiences for those of you who have updated? Good? Bad? I keep getting desktop notifications to reserve but I won't do it yet.

Updated. Like it much better than previous version.

What is the value (or risk) of updating from Win 7 to Win 10 on a computer that does not have touch screen capability? I had more or less assumed that I would stick with Win 7, but open to suggestion.

And, have the kinks been worked out? (My daughter has a Win 8 touchscreen laptop and I had suggested that she hold off on the upgrade for a little while "until the dust settles." Maybe we are there now?)

I've updated three windows 8.1 machines to win 10 as well as a win 7 laptop. Two of the 8.1 updates acted strange and required me to reset windows after the upgrade. All the machines are running smooth. The win 7 laptop, an older core i5 machine is running noticeably faster.

I would go ahead and update, but as with any update, make a full backup first.

I updated the laptop yesterday while it was snowing. Seems to be working well.

How good is the embedded antivirus and malware protection in Windows 10. Should I really get rid of Norton, Malwarebytes, and SuperAntispyware?

I don't know. Haven't gotten that far yet. I've been using Microsoft Security Essentials without any issues. But I don't know what AV protection is supplied with WIN10.

Believe it or not, we don't use a third-party app at my workplace as standard practice, though I'm sure do individually.

Whatever you use, be careful when you use your web browser. Some tech savvy people who have no choice but to use Windows install a virtual machine, often Ubuntu Linux, and they use that for web browsing, since Windows is so vulnerable. It's not for the faint of heart, but if you're savvy, try it.

Here is some perspective on Windows Defender.

I don't follow what you're saying. Chrome under Windows is still using Windows.

Sorry. I was thinking Microsoft and Internet Explorer.

Got it. Sure, using Internet Explorer is asking for trouble, but Chrome doesn't make you invulnerable.

Unless you download and execute files, chrome is probably the safest choice since tabs are sand-boxed from each other and from the OS, making it pretty hard for a drive by attack to escape to the OS.

Extensions however can avoid much of this, so make sure to only use reputable chrome extensions.
