The Rose Garden and White House happenings: Listening to voters’ concerns

Yes, and posters will continue to think all Republicans support sexual predators because Trump "used to be" a sexual harrasser.    Yet I haven't seen any posts from folks who believe all Democrats are pro-slavery. Both opinions are naive.

I no several Republicans who do not support Trump.  Those who do support Trump are, again, LITERALLY supporting a sexual predator.

'Know' you don't.  All Republicans support sexual predators.

LP is arguing that Trump is no longer sexist?

Does being sexist equate to being a sexual harasser?

Not necessarily. So you are arguing that he's no longer a sexual harasser?

Yes - until I see evidence to the contrary

He’s proudly (and publicly)  boasted of assaulting women and ogling undressed children.

Unless you don’t trust his word...

Democrats were segregationists until the Civil Rights Acts of 1964 and 1965 after which they became Republicans.

this most recent argument is one of the most foolish in the history of this thread.  And that's really saying something.

Let's just say that to anyone STILL supporting the Donald, reports of his behavior with women are obviously not any sort of deal breaker.

I don't condone harassment of any kind like all the posters on this thread. And I place Obama (e.g. tea party) and Trump bashers in the same bucket.

So complaints Tea Partiers made about Obama are on the same level--and as valid--as those made about Trump's childishness, sexist behavior, paying off a porn star he screwed when his kid was 8 months old, lack of intellect and curiosity, profiting off the presidency, temper tantrums, mocking disabled people, calling Mexicans rapists, and threats to bomb North Korea? (Sorry, that's just a short list.)

Trump is Trump  and he's president.  If you're a Democrat do something constructive so that the next election isn't a fiasco instead of ********, moaning and whining as if mirroring Trump's temper tantrums.

remarkably, this thread has gotten stupider.

Because as drummerboy says it just gets stupider

Lots of assumptions in there, including imagining that this is the entirety of one's political activity.

If you don't support Trump and are a conservative, I hope that you are also participating in constructive activities. Right now, he's supported by 80% of Republicans (meaning he's mainstream for that party).

Funny story - her DACA expired, she's back in Mexico.

Maybe not so funny.

As an independent (voted Libertarian last election and Obama before that) the only thing I can do is try to debate issues with entrenched Republicans and Democrats and try to convince them that their parties, by and large,  do not have their best interests in mind.  You would think it wouldn't be that difficult.  For example convincing Republicans that its good to let immigrants, they work hard or Democrats that welfare programs are fine but it perpetuates a kind of dependency.   Unfortunately on certain MOL topics I'd be called a racist  or sexual predator fan.

If I knew how to private message you, Lord Pabulum, I would. You have always been a voice of reason and someone who respects another’s point of view. A few rounds with those MOLers who are totally unaware of conversational give and take, can make reasonsible folks begin to rave in like manner. It’s catching! Those of us who are reasonable must persevere— resistance!

says the MOL poster least likely to engage in conversation.

Your refusal to "give and take" with me by refusing to answer or ignoring my questions, or by changing the subject rather than "giving and taking" with me and others has not made me rave but has made me alternatively angry and sad.

As for your praise of brother pablum

You are perhaps the last person that our good Lord P or anyone else will ever convince that your Republican Party does not have your best interests in mind.

I watched the speech last evening and thought POTUS/Businessman Trump delivered a measured and strong speech. I thought the smiling First Lady, stunning dressed in an elegant white suit, surrounded as she was by several brave men and women who told of their pain and loss, looked regal.

Apparently there was an effort to encourage some resistance solidarity among Democrat women to wear black last night. Nancy Pelosi did, although I saw much colored finery as well.

I really never understood the expression, “chewing their own crud,” until last evening. Ms Pelosi was often on camera seemingly chewing furiously her entire face and mouth! It was really weird. Even weirder, was the sight of Schumer slumping in his seat, eyes rolling and smirking throughout the speech.

I was taught to listen and act respectfully — especially so when in such a historical and meaningful setting. It doesn’t mean you agree with what is being said, but that you are all grown up, and act accordingly.

Going with the white pantsuit Hillary look was an interesting choice.

It's a safe bet that over half of America would have those expressions watching Trump give that speech.

Mtierney, to get a better idea of the grownups who taught you, I’m curious what you think they might have said about your show of respect:

Yeah, measured strong.  oh oh

Here you go again with Businessman Trump. Another time you mentioned businessman Trump, I replied:

Effective and astute businessmen don't mass hire failures like Bannon, Flynn, Preibus, Scaramucci, etc. All failed. When one hires that many losers, then the fault is the one doing the hiring - lack of intelligence and astuteness.
Occasionally, a capable businessman does hire one who may not measure up. Then he tries to remedy the situation by supporting the hire, to help become productive. Something that Trump has shown us to be incapable of.
Besides, how many businessmen have the multiple bankruptcies Trump has had? Four casino bankruptcies? Some going bankrupt when the economy was roaring. Where's Trumps airline? Gone.
Need I go on?

I will go on. He's a charlatan, a  conman. A "businessman" who enriched himself by looting companies and stiffing vendors. When the jig is up, that is his business is looted of assets, he declares bankruptcy.

Compare Trump, the master of multiple bankruptcies, to Bloomberg, Buffett, Dimon, etc. How many times have they or the companies they led declared bankrupt? They are real businessmen, not con artists.

First, my observation on the address was said  in “private” commentary — not live,  before a world wide audience. If my words shocked or offended you, I am truly sorry.

What would my mentors have said about my critisim in this instance? I really don’t think they would be able to comprehend — or believe —the current enviornment.

I am myself truly shocked over the ugly and unsubstantiated statements directed at me on a very personal level here on MOL repeatedly. I will not engage or give satisfaction with a angry response. Some folks really, really need a hug!

Not by me, though!

I listened for about a minute. This is what he said when I tuned in.  It was neither measured nor strong.  Of course it's not true.  It doesn't take 10 years for a permit to build a simple road.

America is a nation of builders. We built the Empire State Building in just 1 year -- is it not a disgrace that it can now take 10 years just to get a permit approved for a simple road?

It's really hard to listen to Donald Trump, because it's hard not to conclude that he hates the United States. His descriptions of the U.S. make it sound like a shithole country.

The expression is "chewing their cud".  Its something cows do and the expression means that someone is ruminating.

I am struck anew by the oddity of living in a place where people are so utterly divorced from the production of the food they eat.

"It's really hard to listen to Donald Trump, because it's hard not to conclude that he hates the United States. His descriptions of the U.S. make it sound like a shithole country."

It's really hard to listen and read this kind of garbage, and not conclude that the left doesn't hate the United States. This is especially true seeing how they all sat on their hands for some of the most important moments in the evening. It was sick, really sick....

The most important moments of what? The thing of which Justice Scalia once said, “It has turned into a childish spectacle. I don’t want to be there to lend dignity to it"?
