The Rose Garden and White House happenings: Listening to voters’ concerns

My five year old knows you don’t use those words.

He is a gentleman.

No, he’s not ‘just learning on the job’, he’s a prominent businessman and has been in the media for decades. He’s moved in distinguished, polite circles for many years and he’s expecting to meet the Queen of England on a State visit ... he knows how to behave and how to speak.

It amazes me that those of you who curse regularly (albeit with cute typing errors) are offended when DJT uses the curse himself. Let’s face it: pronouncing sh#t is not possible.

Politico is so excited about the new found freedom that it used the word 10 times in headlines on its website.

If you think the biggest problem is the vulgarity, and not the intent, then it's pretty clear where you stand.

she did the same thing in response to Trump's pussy grab comment. It's just standard right wing cant to deflect from the horror of our President admitting to sexual assault (or to be a stone-cold racist in the latest case).

It's despicably dishonest or monumentally stupid. One can never tell.

Talking about "vulgarity" is a distraction. I heard a right-wing politician on radio comparing it to Joe Biden calling the ACA "A big f#@%ing deal".

The problem is not the vulgarity, but the intent. The problem is ignorance and racism.

If you think mtierney feels horror with regard to sexual assault or child molestation, you clearly haven't been paying attention.

I don't read that other thread. I can only take so much.

Its a shame the thing with the porn star didn't have much staying power (probably a matter of low stamina).

"First Lady Stormy Daniels" has a certain flair to it.

In case anyone is wondering.

it’s complicated, there are no easy answers ...but trashing one another and vilifying our government surely is not constructive, but destructive for sure.

Unbelievable.

This thread was started to vilify the government.

Look what is happening in London with Trump supporters. The mayor was speaking and these ruffians tried to make a citizen's arrest.   Talk about trashing,Trump is trashing the world. He is supposed to be the president. Why doesn't he act like it. Every country hates us ,no wonder.

Not so. It began with the politicized rewrite of the events leading to the deaths of four Americans in Benghazi. HRC lost in 2016 due to events ignited in 2012. In that this thread politically follows what is happening in Washington, its focus is government.

Our current issue, actually,  is the orchestration of hate for one person, the president, by angry liberals. I think anyone who benefits from increased pensions, wages and financial gains should donate the monies to the United Nations or a charity of choice.

Admittedly, DJT is a larger than life target, but he is who he is. And he is our President.

you have it backwards.  It's not as though there was a massive pool of liberal hate out there just looking for a target.  Donald Trump provoked the hatred through his hateful words and actions.  You should be blaming the president himself for the tone you are appalled by.

"Our current issue" is the reaction to President Trump's own "orchestration of hate", through his language and his actions, against some human beings.  If you disagree with the strong objection that people have (or "angry liberals", as you say) then you're defending his position.

In a post yesterday, I shared something written by Father James Martin, on "our current issue".  If you characterize what he wrote as "the orchestration of hate for one person, the president", then you are either failing to read it, or being profoundly offensive. Often a text using religious faith isn't appropriate for a discussion of politics, but as the President and his supporters claim to be acting as "Christians", and you style yourself as a "defender of the faith" in your "Pope Francis" thread, it's appropriate here.

I'll repeat the text below, and you can respond if you want to clarify that you're not supporting hate.

"Why are we having all these people from sh#*hole countries come here?"

1.) They are our brothers and sisters in need.
2.) They are often fleeing war, violence or famine.
3.) There are children among them.
4.) The Old Testament asks us to care for the "alien."
5.) Jesus asks us to welcome the "stranger."
6.) Jesus asks us to love one another.
7.) We will be judged on how we care for the stranger.
8.) They come bringing hope.
9.) It's the right thing to do.
10.) That's who we are.

One more reason: Jesus himself was from a "sh#*hole" place. Nazareth was a minuscule town of 200 to 400 people, where people lived in small stone houses, and, say archaeologists, garbage (that is, s#*t) was dumped in the alleyways. "Can anything good come from Nazareth?" says Nathanael when he hears where the Messiah is from.

God, in other words, came from a "sh#*hole" place. And he pointedly asked us to welcome him whenever he appeared as a "stranger," or as one of our "least" brothers and sisters. That's why we have all these people come. Because Jesus came.

because we are all sinners, we can only imagine a perfect world as Fr. Martin and  God’s entreaties envision for mankind.

Humanity is a long way from achieving such perfect love for mankind.

MOL is sort of a microcosm where differences of opinion are fair game for vilification by those who think differently.  Think about that behavior.

we don't care if you think "differently".

We care if you think abhorrently. Maybe you should think about that.

Nobody is asking for perfection.  I'd prefer not to be asked to "think about" my "behavior" just because I asked you why you defend Trump's vilification of others.

[Edited to add]  Here's another point of view to consider -

On Jan. 8, addressing diplomats assigned to the Vatican, Pope Francis explained again in no uncertain terms our moral obligation to welcome and protect migrants and refugees. He challenged these national representatives about political rhetoric used against migrants "only for the sake of stirring up primal fears." Francis told them to "abandon the familiar rhetoric and start from the essential consideration that we are dealing, above all, with persons."
...
Trump and his staff routinely demonize immigrants. He was elected on "stirring up primal fears" and won't abandon that tactic now. Thursday, Trump's racism was again on public display in a meeting with U.S. senators trying to hammer out a deal on DACA. Why should we extend protection to people from Haiti and Africa, Trump demanded; "Why are we having all these people from shithole countries come here?" he asked. Such repulsive disregard for other nations, cultures and human beings cannot go unchallenged, and we cannot allow it to be explained away.

Anyone who calls themself Catholic must stop making excuses for the president. High-profile Catholics in media and politics should no longer tolerate the vicious, nativist punditry of Fox News' Laura Ingraham or the bigotry of Sean Hannity.

I think Catholics have the same rights as other people.

This may be Hilary’s lasting impact....

One more point of view, you can write to them and tell them that they're vilifying Trump -

mtierney said:

As a Catholic, I would never say Catholics don't have the same rights as other people.  I also wouldn't say that there are ANY types of people who don't have the same rights as other people, so that distinguishes me from President Trump.

You should read the articles you post, before you posted them, by the way.  Here's it's argument: "Even those women who disliked Hillary-the-candidate or who backed her opponent Senator Bernie Sanders in the Democratic primary now credit the indignities and cynicism Mrs. Clinton faced in the 2016 election and her unexpected loss to Mr. Trump, an alleged sexual abuser, for the current moment."  Congratulations on contributing to the indignities and cynicism she faced, and support for the "alleged" sexual abuser.

The fact that we are a long ways from our destination does not excuse driving in reverse.

Some opinions are villainous.  To let those opinions go unchallenged, either here on MOL or in Washington would constitute a moral lapse. This unwillingness of the GOP to challenge the most sordid manifestations of evils is perhaps its greatest failing.

Apparently, Trump had Binders of Porn Stars.  They are coming out of the woodwork.

(O)n Friday night, another porn star, Alana Evans, shed some light on the matter, telling the Daily Beast that Daniels told her one day after the alleged tryst that Trump had chased her around a hotel room "in his tighty-whities."......"Stormy calls me four or five times, by the last two phone calls she's with Donald and I can hear him, and he's talking through the phone to me saying, 'Oh come on Alana, let's have some fun! Let's have some fun!'" Evans said.

Trump — whose third wife, Melania, had given birth to their son, Barron, just months before — continued, "Come to the party, we're waiting for you," according to Evans.

:New York Daily News

What a charming way to celebrate the birth of his son!

Of course, Melania was only Trump's third wife and he, cumulatively, had only been married for more than 20 years.  Perhaps he was still learning to be a husband......

I have to say, he for a "stable genius" he doesn't seem to be a very quick learner.

I just threw up in my mouth

Mtierney, of the porn stars that we know Donald cheated on Melania with, which would you say is your favorite?
