TKTS booth, pre-theater lunch -- tips please!

I am planning to meet my daughter at the TKTS booth and then grab lunch after buying tix/see a matinee Saturday. I've never done this so all tips would be helpful! When should we arrive? What should we see? Where should we eat? Etc!

It's hard to say when you should arrive because it seems like sometimes they get more tix/different shows during the time they are open.  (Perhaps some shows/theaters wait to bring their excess tickets?  I'm really not sure how it works.)  Download the TKTS app to your phone because it lists what shows are available on the day and you can't always see the 'boards' from some parts of the line.  Re lunch, I know many people sneer at it, but we like Juniors and it's not far.  Also Time Square deli.  And I think there are lots of other eateries around there also.  As for what to see - maybe check the list online today or tomorrow and pick a few that sound good. Our next one will probably be 'Fun Home'.

I agree with sac about the TKTS app. It's updated real time.

As for lunch I recommend using the Open Table app once you get your tickets and know what you'll be seeing. You can make a reservation and not be worried about waiting in line or having to walk several blocks to your show once you finish eating.  The app lets you look at restaurants on a map so you can zoom in on the immediate few blocks around your theatre. Then it will tell you if the restaurant has a table and you can even look at a menu.

We liked Fun Home. A friend of ours understudies for the two adults female leads and we got to see her play the mom one time.

"Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-time" is an amazing piece of theatre as well. A bit harrowing at times but really moving and uplifting. Stay after the curtain call!

(Also, deborahg if you haven't yet, take your hubbie to see "Something Rotten." He'll turn that special bright shade of red he gets when he's laughing uncontrollably.)

Excellent play to see if it is available.

...and Curious Incident posted closing for September - so you want to get to see it before then!

Absolutely!  'Something Rotten' is wonderful, but I guess I was assuming you had already seen it. If not ... then definitely put it on the list! The college kid will love it since she has no doubt studied some Shakespeare in recent years.  I know mine did.

The South Street Seaport and the Brooklyn TKTS booths have Saturday matinee tickets available on Friday.

Got good seats recently for my 16-y.o. daughter and me for the Caroel King musical--LOVED it!

Just saw Humans; great show. Bought discounted tickets online through NYTIX.

I'm not sure how the prices compare to TKTS.

Lunch was at Marseille; loved it.

restaurant: we loved Briciola, a tiny little restaurant/wine bar with excellent small plates. sit at the bar or a communal table. 370 West 51st. there is a sister restaurant/wine bar across the street.

^^ I like those two. The place accross the street is Aria and specializes in South African food and wines. They're owned by the same couple.

We got Fiddler on the Roof -- now looking for brunch/lunch near Bway and 51st!

Toloache?

Briciola, Pure Thai Cookhouse, El Centro, on or near Ninth Ave.

Splurge-y: The Bar Room at The Modern.

toloache and the bar room sold out. Going for a little Greek place on 56th. Will report back!
