The NYT Spelling Bee Thread

I only got it due to a previous puzzle.

Been one-away for a few hours now today...

I'm two away and it's not looking good to make it down to one, let alone QB.

Found it and got QB by trial and error, then looked it up.

Learned a new word.

"Learned a new word."

Tell us tomorrow?  And congrats!

I had no idea "wildwood" was anything other than a town on the Jersey Shore.

I got "wildwood" but missed "lowdown" for QB yesterday

I missed nonillion... again... How? Why can't I remember this is a word?

Two away. I'm going to the hints.

QB today.  The last word was a matter of trying random combinations.

Got the QB with hints and a trip to a dictionary site

Amazing! I mean, QB! Three away and I gave up. Will kick myself when I see the words.

No you won’t. One (my stab and I’m betting yahooyahoo’s as well) sounds like it’s straight out of the Bible or the Middle Ages or something.

Also got QB today. Yay!

Thanks! And the word - “tilth”! (Betting another common miss was “fitly”)

noun

  1. Cultivation of land; tillage.
  2. Tilled earth.
  3. The fitness of soil for cultivation, as measured by its structure and composition.

The American Heritage® Dictionary of the English Language, 5th Edition.

I used to live in Seattle, where tilth was in the vernacular, but felt lucky to get fitly for sure.

Would have never gotten tilth, but I missed lilt and highlight. A little kicking. grin

"Fitly" was my last word to get QB. I just kept trying five-letter combinations starting with F-I.

grin

I also never would have gotten "tilth" but should have gotten "highlight"...those were the two that kept me from QB yesterday.

Two away again today, but not hopeful…

I ended up 5 away from QB. Today, I'm stuck at 3 away and doubt I'll get any closer.

Yesterday, 1 short, "dorado."  Fish again.  I would never have gotten it.

Dirndl and drool (duh) yesterday.

Have heard of dirndl, but I can’t imagine ever stringing those consonants together on the bee.

I also missed "dorado" for the second time in recent memory.. The first time, I mentally kicked myself because I had seen the word on a menu a few days earlier and had asked what type of fish it was...learned it was "mahi-mahi"...but nonetheless missed the word a few days later when it appeared in Spelling Bee  To add insult to injury, I missed it again yesterday. Maybe next time it'll be "three's the charm" for me when it comes to recognizing "dorado" as a word.

you and me both regarding "dirndl"

I missed stupid words like android and droid and bunch of other words, but I got dirndl...

Today, I am not on the ball at all...

Got to genius today but I'm not even trying for QB.

Just two away today, again, but can’t find em.
