Since when did MOL morph into facebook? Isn't this a community that supports diversity and respects the right of an individual poster to retain their spiritual anonymity? If the grey head is by choice, this choice should be respected. If grey head is due to failed attempts to create an avatar on one's own, then I'm sure your offer of avatar creation assistance is much appreciated.

I agree with Dave. The avatar is the face of the poster, who wants t b faceless? who wants t write something and not be remembered and recognized? It is not difficult. Just do it.
Really, if this old biddy can figger it out anyone can.. Just a bunch of lazy wimps laying about!

What does that word mean? Per the Google it set the smallest allowed size. Yet my photo is twice that and will not upload. I have tried several photos and all have the same problem.
So, if I assume that the word should be Maximum, and I get a smaller photo, will it upload?
What have you done to get your image up.

I've been resizing to about 250x300 or so and they've been working for me.
What size have you been working with? I know 196x196 is the minimum size for avatars. I haven't seen any maximum size mentioned yet, though.
I have the cutest avatar, but I am thinking of reverting to one from the OLD MOL... We will see...

But @dave, I was not "using" the gray head. That is imposed by default here.
I want to be able to continue to choose to be completely avatarless, as I was on the previous MOL site, because I prefer not to have an avatar at all. Not because I am lazy, or computer illiterate, or lack individuality. I am more than capable of making and uploading an avatar, I simply prefer not to use one, as that is the aesthetic I prefer. I fail to see how forcing me to conform and join the herd of avatars is going to improve my individuality.
The friendly old site respected that decision, and no avatar resulted in no avatar. Here no avatar is essentially responded to with "sorry, but you can't have just your username, you must have a dumb gray head too". I hope at some point that can be changed. Barring that, I suppose I'll have to force it manually. ETA: Done.
Anyway, that said, while all of the above is completely true, I still laughed at your post. 
Awesome! I agree, there should be no gray head at all. Adding it to the list of Things To Do.
