ETA: Finally, a puzzle with no Uma.

Hahahaha! Yes!

I'm proud to announce that my alma mater is a clue in Sunday's puzzle.

boy, I've gotten practically nowhere on Saturday's puzzle. Filled in 10 answers, and half of them are probably wrong.

finished. with much cheating. ugh. a tough one.

I thought I wasn't going to finish that one but finally made it! I really feel that doing it electronically makes it so much easier. You can keep trying things till you get somewhere.

SPOILERS!

Yes, me, too. Still sitting here with it. Struggled and get most of it but 3d? Superbowl something? 40d? 49a? 60a? WTF? Even 54a doesn't appear to be what I thought it was. Some other phone number. Not tele?

If you subscribe to the crossword on-line, you can get some hints if you click on "read about this puzzle on wordplay."

yeah, I thought I had the "number" clue too, but I screwed up the first word.

Some tough words and even crazier clues. I've never seen the center square used that way, BTW.

just getting ready to start Sunday...

I'm impressed. This was a very tough one for me.

Well, I spent way too much time looking at it. Not totally proud of that.

First time I've missed on a Monday in quite some time. Had no idea of Ms. Buck's middle initial nor the first letter of that particular flora varietal.

I finished Monday, but can someone explain the answer for 60 down?

You should have no problem going the distance on Tuesday's.

Even if today's puzzle is a few weeks late....

Was going to note the same thing!

just a thanks to whomever mentioned the NYT Puns and Anagrams puzzles. I didn't know about them before and have been combing through the online archives for them. They're a lot fun.

well, that was a weird puzzle... I'm missing the point of the free-standing 5 letter answer at the bottom.

Argh! Just have that one left..,,

The free-standing 5 letter answer at the bottom? It's paint by numbers, baby....

Haha—I finally went to the paper version. Turns out the phone version didn't have those numbers in the squares. Just the number of the clue saying "See Notepad." I had no idea what that even meant!

yeah. apart from the puzzle shape and a couple of clues, there wasn't much theme that I saw.

I used the across-lite software (which, by the way, looks like it did maybe 20 years ago) on this one, and there's a "See notepad" option in there.

The on-line version, at least on the computer, had those five numbers up at the top of the page, above the puzzle grid. Easy peasy.

The theme was divulged with the standalone answer. Look at the shape of the black areas, especially those at the bottom. Then associate some of the longer answers. The theme is there.

NW, not NE, gave me problems today but I finally got it.

I'll state this - today's was kinda fun....

I just started Thursday's puzzle. At first I was baffled, but then it started to fall into place.

But now I'm left with a clump of 4 letters I can't finish. I've answered all of the long clues, but I don't get the trick yet.

oy...

You got 38 & 59 across? That's the clue to the "trick"...
