In stead of cherry picking what I said why don't you post the rest, or don't you recognize a bargaining position when you see it?
We've been asked by some not to re-post lengthy posts because it makes it very difficult to read on a smart phone.
The point I was trying to make is that what is said is important. An exchange of words led to cancellation.
In this situation Trump could have chosen to cherry pick or ignore the words or use them to justify his position.

He had numerous options which I needn't list here. He chose not to ignore them but to react as I have noted. He gained a bargaining position and as noted, the ball is in Kim's court.

How NOKO will respond should be interesting.

BeCCy, you’re doing a heckuva job.

Kim played him beautifully. He made Trump walk away from the table, so he comes off looking great. Plus there is no way China will keep sanction pressure a the same level now. It's terrible for the people of North Korea, but I find this whole thing pretty funny actually.

I'm quite sure it's better for the people of DPRK to continue life in gulags than have Trump "cut a deal for them."

I just wonder how he is going to win his Nobel Peace Prize now. It's not like his Middle East Peace Deal is going very well, the Palestinians don't even want to talk to us anymore. Pretty soon our allies are not going to want to be too engaged with us anymore either. And this is after only one year. Can you imagine three more?

China will make a fake Nobel Peace Prize and present it to Trump on his next visit.  He won’t know the difference and will give them everything they want.

North Korea Says It Will Give Trump ‘Time and Opportunity’ to Reconsider   https://nyti.ms/2LsrNWT?smid=nytcore-ios-share

"The unilateral cancellation of the summit was unexpected and very regrettable,” said Kim Kye-gwan, a vice foreign minister of North Korea, in a statement carried by the North’s official Korean Central News Agency. “But we remain unchanged in our willingness to do everything we can for the peace and stability of the Korean Peninsula and of the humanity, so with a broad and open mind, we are willing to give the United States time and opportunity.”

They will make it 10% bigger than Obama's Nobel Price!

It’s troubling when a NK leader ( North Korea!) carries themselves more diplomatically and should I say more adult than the leader of the supposed free world.

"I was born in North Korea and now live with a South Korean identity. Both these countries are my worlds and naturally, I want what's best," says Ms Hwang.

"It's been more than 10 years now but I still think about my life in the North and I long to see my friends and relatives who I left behind.

"You can't imagine rooting for peace for so long and then see it being taken away."

I think there will be a summit. Maybe not on June 12, but within a couple of months.

Yeah I think a summit will still happen. With two capricious and often impetuous leaders, both of whom want to want to appear to be in control of the situation, it's not surprising that there's drama.

Despite the barrage of BS that followed my comment, NOKO has responded and they are still ready to meet at any time and under any format.

Not exactly the belligerence preceding Trump's cancellation and greeted by Trump as welcome news.

So who has blinked first?

It has nothing to do with "blinking".

NK said, "Let's meet."

Trump agreed. Then he dictated yesterday's letter.

NK says in reply "Now that you've got that out of your system, let's meet." (That is what they seem to say in writing “But we remain unchanged in our willingness to do everything we can for the peace and stability of the Korean Peninsula and of the humanity, so with a broad and open mind, we are willing to give the United States time and opportunity.”

I find the left's glee on this setback to be unfortunate. Just like the right's glee on any difficulty Obama had.

I'm dating myself here but I don't remember it being like this years ago. The polarization and extreme my-side-vs.-your-side seemed to start with the Clinton presidency, and it has only ramped up since then.

Or maybe this always existed but it was just latent before the 24/7 news cycle of cable TV and the internet?

IDK

I think BCC is referencing my post in the Iran Deal Thread, which read:

"A game of chickenshit and we saw who flinched first."

Especially Trump who seems to think that he can run the country like one of his moronic reality T.V. shows.

p.s.  All reality T.V. is kind of bizarre.  People should just get out of their houses - all the reality you can possibly want is right outside your door.

Is this true?  Our Secretary of State, right?
Also GL2:  "If we can put a man on the moon, why can't we make a fake tan the right color?"

 oh oh seriously needed this

Yup, he was roundly mocked after his remark.

The guy went from Rep. to CIA to State in short order. Classic Trump pick. Loyalty above all.

I'm not gleeful, just not surprised. I also think that Trump is genuinely dangerous and stupid and giving him the benefit of the doubt on any issue is delusional. Recall that he hired John Bolten, who is more eager for war than peace.

Trump's on the TV. He's got that weird orange-face-except-for-the-eyes thing going on again.
What a strange-o.

Looking at that picture you posted, you can understand why Comey specifically mentioned this in his book.

On his way to the Marine One helicopter on the South Lawn this morning, when asked by a reporter if it was a game he said "everybody plays games, you know that."

Then again, appointment to the Trump Regime guarantees humiliation - it's what he does.

Secretary of State Mike Pompeo was reportedly blindsided by President Donald Trump’s decision to cancel the denuclearization summit with North Korea, and he blames National Security Adviser John Bolton for the summit’s failure, NBC Newsreported Thursday evening.

Just an hour before the cancellation was announced in a letter to Kim — which Trump reportedly dictated to Bolton — the State Department blasted out a press release to reporters, highlighting the work the department had done with other Asian counterparts in preparation for the meeting, initially set to take place in Singapore next month.

The decision was so unexpected that the White House didn’t have a chance to alert congressional leaders or foreign allies ahead of time and the letter went public while dozens of journalists were inside North Korea to witness the demolition of its nuclear test sites. Trump was reportedly eager to pull out of the denuclearization talks because he didn’t want North Korean leader Kim Jong-un to do it before him, NBC News reported.

Pompeo — who flew to Pyongyang two times since talks began and has met with Kim — reportedly blames Bolton for the erosion of trust between the two countries. In recent weeks, Bolton told the media that Trump would like to see the “Libya model” imposed on North Korea, which reportedly angered Kim, as Libya’s former leader was ousted from power and killed after he agreed to give up his nuclear arsenal.

To compare the resistance against Obama with the resistance against Trump is intellectually lazy and dis-honest. Obama is a centrist Democrat, and very fit to be president. Trump is a narcissistic populist con man who should not have been allowed within 10 miles of the White House.

Is it me or is the Charlie Brown - Lucy style cartoon from early in this thread a bit, er, distasteful and offensive?

What is distasteful about it?  Trump being portrayed as a sucker?

The exaggerated Asian features? Perhaps. Also, that looks nothing like Kim.

 Uh...yes.

I said it would be interesting and it was.The North immediately backed down and yet all the bu****it that followed my original comment seems to have disappeared.

https://www.washingtontimes.com/news/2018/may/25/trump-says-us-north-korea-talking-again/

'In a statement Thursday night, a top North Korean official expressed Pyongyang’s willingness to meet with Mr. Trump “anytime and in any format.” The statement said North Korea is “open-minded in giving time and opportunity to the U.S.”'

An open failure like this (so far) is better for our country than a phony window dressing agreement that allows Trump to crow about his diplomacy while leaving NK's nukes untouched.

Oh, that is bad.  A political cartoon where the likenesses are exaggerated.

Is NK destroying evidence interesting, backing down or both?

They haven't even met yet and you call it a failure without knowing what will be agreed upon should it succeed.

An open failure would have been to walk away from the deal and be left with no negotiated settlement achieved by diplomacy.

The MOL Mirror Image is alive and well.

 OK...

I wonder where the cartoon came from? I'd be honestly surprised if it came from a mainstream media outlet. Seems to me in this day and age, if a mainstream outlet did publish it, there would be a big brouhaha that would require an apology from the cartoonist and the publisher. But maybe I'm wrong.

I'm also surprised MOLers, who I consider generally a pretty PC bunch, don't seem to mind it.
