I admire Blatter for doing the right thing. He tried his best but was ill-served by his subordinates. He had many good suggestions such as his idea to increase the appeal of women's soccer by having the players wear tighter uniforms like volleyball players.
It still hasn't come out what exactly happened behind the scenes for this to happen. The press conference for this was rushed, and even happened 45 minutes late. There is some speculation that Visa is the main culprit and that they threatened to pull out, as they're the only sponsor that didn't make a public statement after the election.
There's also been talk that both the FBI and Swiss authorities had meetings with Blatter yesterday and this may be a part of some plea bargain/plan instituted to minimize organizational damage before he's actually hit with any charges.

I can see the advertising campaign now.
"But if you want to get rid of a corruption-enabling chief executive, use your Visa Card. Because FIFA doesn't take American Express."

Yes. Though I personally prefer the gradual lull into a smile it brought without one.

And this was just outright funny. (2nd place GL2).
Great story:
How a curmudgeonly old reporter exposed the FIFA scandal that toppled Sepp Blatter

And now he's gone. Sepp Blatter has just resigned. Better get John Oliver a case of Bud Light Lime.
