Should the Dems help out McCarthy?

Is crazy is reaching its limits?

What a f#cking mess.

The House is totally disfunctional and the current spending resolution expires on November 17th.

This is a very dangerous game of chicken the GOP is playing.

I can't find where I read this now, but -

Steve Scalise is the Anthony Scaramucci of Bob Livingstons.

Because he couldn’t do the fandango…?

Jordan - loses round 1!  I really dislike this guy more than McCarthy.

McCarthy was mostly just stupid and incompetent. In addition to also having those qualities, Jordan is actually evil.

Jordan is still in contempt of congress for totally refusing to honor a subpoena that was issued over a year ago. Jordan will make McCarthy look like a moderate in comparison. Evil bastard.

Who would have thought that a party that tried to overthrow the 2020 election is having trouble with the transition of power for Speaker of the House.

What's the short list after Jordan?

Chamberlain, Robertson, Abdul-Jabbar, Bryant, James.

The new talking point is that it's the Democrats fault for not supporting any Republicans.

Of course it is -- just like Democrats forced people to vote for Trump.

That was McCarthy's line from the beginning.

Joe Biden on Jim Jordan's difficulties: "I ache for him."

The fact that there are people in congress voting for Jordan just shows how messed up the Republican Party is.

How about the new guy Emmers from Minnesota.  I just read the quick synopsis from the times- seems like a few dems need to step up here.  He seems pretty reasonable.

crap- he just dropped out!

The way for Republicans to get help from Democrats is simple.  A block of them, maybe 20, need to approach Jeffries and negotiate.  No way should any democrat peel off on his or her own to support a Republican speaker.  Essentially the Republicans no longer hold a majority in the house.

We have parliamentary politics but not a parliamentary structure. The legislative governing majority has collapsed and so there should be new elections... but our system doesn't work that way so we're stuck.

Well, they elected someone but I guess they still have the ability to force a recall with one vote.  The so called moderate Republicans are utterly spineless.

Sure they should. Why not?

Oh wait

what a guy

Somebody please tell me that the House reconstitutes itself right after new year's, so Dems may have the speakership when the presidential votes are certified??  Truly truly nerve-wracking on top of everything else.

Pretty sure it would be the Congress elected in 2024 that would be relevant, though I haven't seen a source I feel definite enough to quote on that yet. Puts a lot of pressure on both presidential and congressional elections next year!

Yes, congress is sworn in before the results are certified.

Okay. Maybe today the Dems should help out McCarthy.
