Squirrels

I have a pretty small background with 2 big trees and almost 2 year old twins. The squirrels run up and down the trees and get pretty close to the kids. I spoke to someone who said the squirrels shouldn't be a problem but if I"m concerned I shouldn't have the kids in the backyard. Am I just being neurotic?

Can't live with 'em, can't live without 'em, am I right?

Yes

Squirrels are not going to harm your children. I wouldn't give it another thought.

thanks for responding. glad i asked.

We've always had tons of squirrels and never had an issue with the kids. They scram once the playing, noise and movement ensues. They may not totally disappear, but don't worry about them nearing the kids.

I'm still waiting for a presidential candidate to run on a squirrel eradication platform. There's a Trump joke in there somewhere.

Kids, not an issue.

Tomatoes, well, that's a different story.

Bird feeders, you are in for a world of pain.

Kids and squirrels, not an issue.

But squirrels have cost me over $2000 since we moved here (19 years ago).

Some of that went to the chimney service when squirrels nested in the front chimney.

Some went to the guy with the traps when a squirrel fell down the back chimney and was loose in the house.

Another $1500 went to the comprehensive deductible on our auto insurance when squirrels ate the wire insulation and shorted out our airbags.

I used to like squirrels...

A friend in Maplewood called squirrels "rats with better outfits."

Unforgettable squirrel moment from when our son was about 8 -- somehow a baby squirrel got 'imprinted' on him, and followed him around the yard worshipfully for many long minutes. It was adorable and sort of sad too, since you had to assume the little thing had no mother any more. Apart from this, not a big fan of squirrels (tomatoes!) but I can't imagine they are dangerous in any way.
