Sarah and the Red Hen

This country faces a crisis for those of us who do not want to live under fascism. This is not a time to be "nice" to members of the regime who are actively dismantling the country and moving toward authoritarianism. The Red Hen performed an act of resistance. Every small act of resistance that puts sand in their gears, that calls them out, that demonstrates that Americans will not stand for fascism, is a good thing.

From my understanding, a poll was taken among the workers and they, not necessarily the owner, decided that SHS should go. They are people of color, gays and immigrants. They didn't want to serve her and stood their ground not to.

Would I have done it? No. If those were my employees would I have even taken a vote? No. My job is to cook and serve food to as many people who want to pay for my food. However, I would have told my staff not to engage in unnecessary banter with her and her party and to serve them politely but get them out of there as soon as possible.

My hope is that all of them will begin to feel the slings and arrows of outrageous fortune. I want them to be made uncomfortable, not kicked out, but uncomfortable at Red Hen, Per Se, Rosa Mexicana and Subways across the nation. They deserve it.

The Red Hen gets 4.5 stars on Trip Advisor. Trip Advisor has put up this message:

I would love to hear one of the reporters at the SHS press conference asks her why they chose The Red Hen.

LOL great solution. It made me think of the parody in the Cheap Detective when Peter Falk and Eileen Brennan, as the only Americans, jump up and sing Deep Purple.

Also........I saw an article that said The Red Hen was three hours South of Washington DC.

Now assuming Sarah lives South of Washington..........she would have had a round trip ride to

eat and return home from there of several hours.  Nice recommendation for the restaurant.

I write for Trip Adviser..........they pay us in refrigerator magnets...........and a long drive to sample a good meal is definitely a downer

Seems to me that the owners of the Red Hen have a fair case against Trump for slander.

Oh, that would be good.  Don't refuse her service, have the wait staff take her order and prepare it, etc, but all the while stand next to her and explain, over and over, how her actions and the actions of the administration she is representing are deplorable.

Trump and enablers are happily stepping on our necks until we submit or choke. With Sanders happily enabling this.

Be upfront. Just tell her she is not welcome in the establishment.

When the hospitality industry accepts a guest, gracious and good service is required. You never accept a guest and then purposefully give crappy service.

Afterwards, she used her White House account to let her over 3 million followers know how badly she was treated because they don't like Trump and patting herself in how polite she was.

Polite would have been not posting.

She knew exactly what would happen by posting. Trump loonies would come out, post thousands of horrible Yelp reviews, tie up the restaurant phone lines, threats to restaurant staff and the restaurant itself. How could she not? There have a dozen opposition to Trump incidents at establishments that were followed by the same threatening scenario as I described above.

(Not sure why the link wasn't created above)

Ironic.

I watched more than one movie where deplorables were not served and everyone watching agreed "yeah, kick the the creeps out." And they were true incidents.

The Times reports that Trump isn't too happy with SHS and has been openly discussing giving her the boot.  It remains to be seen whether the President will reach out to Baghdad Bob as a possible replacement.

I am shocked that SHS goes out to eat and thinks people aren’t spitting in her food.

What will make Trump happy considering her nose can't possibly fit any deeper into his a**?

Again, we are shown Trump loyalty is one way.

This doesn't sound right and I don't see any such story on NYT home page where it surely would be.

Please provide link?

There have been rumors floating around - it is mentioned here:

   https://www.nytimes.com/2018/06/19/us/politics/joe-hagin-retires-trump-white-house.html

Mr. Hagin may be on the leading edge of a fresh wave of departures from a White House that has had record turnover. Among others who have been said to be considering leaving this year are Mr. Kelly; Donald F. McGahn II, the White House counsel; Marc Short, the legislative affairs director; Sarah Huckabee Sanders, the press secretary; Raj Shah, the top deputy press secretary; and Dan Scavino Jr., the social media director.

The way a person of class would have reacted is called "the high road"

Since Sarah has neither a GPS or a map............she took the alternate route.

In the Greek Orthodox faith we dye our Easter eggs red

Maybe that Red Hen had a deeper meaning........there is still strength in the old ways.

I think Smedley's point is about Trump openly expressing dissatisfaction with Sanders. I haven't seen any reports to that effect either. The rumors have simply been that Sanders might leave, not that Trump is unhappy with her.

There is a big difference between deciding not to hold a political event at your place of business and kicking out a paying customer who is already there.  They're not very similar at all.
So, if Hitler, Stalin and Jeffery Dahlmer walk into your cafe with the guy who raped your Mom, do you serve them?  I mean, surely there is some upper limit on the level of deplorability that you will tolerate, right?

Jeffery Dahlmer and John Wayne Gacy were having supper together at Jeff’s House.

“Jeff, you gonna finish all that?”

I'm not crazy about what's been happening here. I don't think Trump staffers deserve much respect, but these kinds of actions can backfire. Trumpers tend to be a bit fanatical , and after actions like what Maxine Waters did yesterday, I can see this stuff leading to violence at some point.

And frankly, I think Trump is just itching for that to happen. He can't wait to be in charge of a violent mob.

Of course Trump loves this.  Plays right into his hands, giving him the excuse to paint his opposition out to be as polarizing, insular and exclusionary as he is.

Not sure it makes much difference to many, but for the sake of discussion and chronology it may be noted that a restaurant staffer posted publicly before SHS.

Yep. I liken it to a basketball team whose opponent is playing to their style.

NYT:Trump Criticizes Restaurant Refusing to Serve His Press Secretary

Mr. Trump’s criticism of the restaurant — calling it “dirty” and “filthy” — was notably more animated than his defense of Ms. Sanders, whom he called “a fine person,” suggesting the degree to which the president has cooled to his press secretary, according to people close to him.

Mr. Trump routinely asks people privately what they think of Ms. Sanders, and has told her he is going to “grade” her on public appearances. He has viewed her as weak, these people say, ever since the White House Correspondents Dinner in April, when Ms. Sanders sat at the head table listening to a brutal roast of her by a comedian, without getting up to walk out in protest.

Perhaps I misspoke.  Maybe he is going to keep the "weak" press secretary who he grades on her performances.  That said, given the job description, I still think Bagdad Bob would do a better job.  The man has real experience.

Of course, it could be that Trump just enjoys forcing women to perform humiliating acts and he will keep SHS on until he is arrested.

Mr. Trump calla the Red Hen "dirty and filthy".    Has he been there?  He needs to be called on that one.  Then again since he is known as "liar in chief"....does it really matter.

That was stupid. Assert displeasure privately as the owner. There is no need to world broadcast it.

Anyone not living under a rock would have known what would happen if it got on social media.

I do not think we should care one iota about what they think about our actions. We are fighting for the future of this country. We are fighting for OUR futures. If I owned a business, no way would I serve a member of a regime that is leading us toward fascism.

Paraphrasing a tweet I read: Nobody living in an authoritarian regime ever said, "If only we had been more polite and respectful to the people who work for Dear Leader, maybe we'd be living under democracy."
