Grazing In The Grass

- Friends of Distinction

The original was Hugh Masekela's horn driven hit. The Friends added vocals and swapped out the horns for guitars and sped it up to make a pop/R&B hit.

I have to promise myself to only post one...

"Never My Love" is a guilty pleasure of mine.

Last summer, some band of older guys, NJ rock scene vets, was playing in downtown Millburn.  One of several bands that played as part of some local merchants promotion thing.  They did a lot of classic rock, but a note for note perfect rendition of the Guess Who's "No Time" was a standout.  If they're coming around again, I'll flag it here.

The Zombies have been playing a lot in recent years.  Saw them a few years ago.  Good stuff. The lead singer still has a sweet voice.  "Time of the Season" is one of the great singles of that era.

From A to Z, ten multi-hit ’60s pop groups you didn’t have to be L7 to dig after all:

The Association

The Bee Gees

The Fifth Dimension

The Grass Roots

The Guess Who

The Hollies

The Monkees

The Rascals

The Turtles

The Zombies

For others who see only a link, here’s the song from cuejustone:

Some really great picks so far. My contribution is Fleetwood Mac's, "Dreams" - which is but one of so many perfect pop songs they produced over the years.

A Beatles' song doesn't have to be "A Day In The Life" to be a masterpiece. This one is just a perfect pop song. Just the right amount of hook, backbeat, drum solo and -- most importantly -- exactly the right tempo to totally swing. A metronome click faster or slower and it just wouldn't be the same.

Whole album. One of the best pop records I've ever heard.

Ric Ocasek-produced, 2 to 3 minutes, good melodies, some vocal harmonies, not of the 60s but a modern rock pop classic....

Killer middle eight in that song!

This is one of those songs I find myself singing a lot all these years later:
