But the average township bill increased 11 percent, and in Old Short Hills local taxes climbed an average of 31 percent. Throughout the township, the news was not welcomed.

I found some county tax data for 2015 which gives a rough estimate of Millburn's share of Essex County property tax revenue. Millburn paid 11.4% of the county taxes that were collected from each town/city. By comparison, Newark paid 16.5% and Maplewood paid 4.2%. South Orange paid 3.1%
I agree Maplewood's taxes would increase substantially if Millburn seceded. My guess is in the range of 12%.
Which is exactly why Millburn will never be allowed to secede.
Yeah they won by a huge margin. The Dems should have put some time in to campaigning this year. Their whole campaign seemed to be “we are not republican” and it all came from the Dem township party leaders and supporters, not the candidates themselves.
