Kobe Bryant killed in a helicopter crash

Yep, Elaine's dad. A role model for me, as well.

I'm just saying, the people who have REALLY effected my life have been people that I actually know.

I also detest media driven exemplars of virtue, because they’re most often dictated by the prevailing power structure and the tastes primarily of the men who control that. That aside, Its just possible that someone like Kobe Bryant is held in widespread esteem by sports fans of all ethnicities and many people of color specifically. If you are not understanding of that in your own experiences, then it’s best to reserve the judgements to those who may be closer to the situation.

You mean like his victim?  She was right there in the room with Kobe.  Maybe she should be the one to dictate his legacy.  You can't get physically any closer to a person than you are when they are raping you.

Not giving anyone a free pass. But nor do I believe that my personal heroes, or anyone else’s, has lived an exemplary life. Just because it’s not widely publicized doesn’t mean it hasn’t happened.

You know, you may have a point here.  I've read your posts on MOL for years and generally had a pretty favorable opinion of you but, now that we seem to be meeting the REAL you, I've got to say the veil has been lifted.

Not without my faults.

Like any other human.

All of this sounds like a wonderful strategy for Harvey Weinstein.  I mean, how many millions of people have enjoyed his movies?  Sure he raped a few people along the way but nobody's perfect.

Seriously, this is why this cycle repeats over and over again.  We wonder why the rich and powerful think they can abuse anyone and get away with it but it is because we, as a society, give them a free pass.

But for most human beings, those faults don't include raping other people.

Honestly, this whole topic has made me physically ill.  I am just going to step away from the computer for a while, so, if you hear crickets, don't be surprised.

So let’s hear your incessant unpleasantries about him. Or Woody Allen. Or any number of ancient rock stars and scummy authors. Don’t bother. I’ll search your MOL history.

Joe Biden is at the top of his list. Klunker is one angry person. Wtf

That might be a good idea.  You could start with the Pope Francis thread.  Klinker has written pretty extensively about his family's experiences with sexual assault and the price they have had to pay. There's a reason the guy is angry.

I did not know that part of Klinker's history.

That would explain a lot of anger.

This is a country that elected Trump (and yeah, I know he did not win the popular vote) and looked well past his transgressions.  As a country we have very low moral standards.  We make justifications for killing people in other countries, allow our Senators and Congress persons to take bribes, and millions worship celebrities and for the most part ignore their behavior.

Trump, whose biggest success was a reality TV show and people ate it up.  The QB of the Pittsburgh steelers was supported by the NFL and the football fans despite more than one instance sexually abusing a woman.  Charges are always dropped in these cases because we treat the victim in rape cases like the guilty party.  The list of sports figures who abused or raped a woman is too great to list but rarely does the punishment fit the crime.  Sure Ray Rice paid a price but he was the exception, not the rule (and the punishment hurt his wife as well).

Kobe Bryant was a great basketball player.  Maybe he was a great father.  And I am sure he was a great friend to many.  However, he had more than a few faults but obviously a very forgiving wife who was willing to look the other way to enjoy a certain lifestyle.

It is time we start treating our real heroes like heroes and changing where we spend our dollars.  Instead of paying to watch sports, we should be paying for education, health care workers, etc.  I stopped watching pro sports years ago and stopped watching anything to do with the NCAA for an even longer time.

The latest Kobe critics emanate largely from conservative posters on social media. I find tremendous irony in this,  since you know who and his cronies occupy the White House. No friends to women anywhere. Just sayin.

RIP to Kobe and the others on that flight.

Not really a Kobe fan but people labeling Kobe a rapist when he should be labeled as an accused rapist. He was never convicted of the crime. This is a part of his legacy unfortunately.
