Wind Advisory Remains in Effect Today, Sat 3/3

And just like that we are swinging back and forth between rain and snow here.

snowing in the city right now.

I know there's at least a few hours of this left but so far the intensity and volume of precip is less than what I expected based on the dire forecasts.  It was no more than drizzling when I walked the dog this morning and the "rivers" in the street were nothing like I've seen them in the past during torrential rains.

It's pretty nasty out there. I had a big difference in walking to the train in SO at 715 am (just a little rain), and walking to office in NYC at 815 (wind-driven wet snow).

I'm just hoping trees don't fall on the tracks and stop the trains...

Morristown School District calling it a short day and early dismissal ahead of anticipated snow-ice-sleet this afternoon.

I’m out in Western Morris county and they are using our last snow day today. Should be changing over to snow shortly.

And now it has

Which shows how fine the rain/snow line is in this storm.

Our elevation is around 1200ft so we usually get that “higher elevation” snow.

I would rather have snow since it can be cleaned up rather than flooding rains, at least at our place. We have numerous streams around our house. Spent the other day clearing debris out of them to avoid any issues if this was going to be rain. One stream was moving pretty swiftly this morning.

I'm going to a 7:00 concert near NYU this evening, and debating whether to take a train or drive through the Holland Tunnel.  Anyone have thoughts on that?

Has anyone been local today?  How are the roads?

I was out driving at 6:30am and 7:30am and was fine - not much standing water at that point

Some of the tracks at the Hoboken train station were starting to flood when I got off my train at 9:30.  I don't think all of them are -- looks like some of them have worse drainage issues between the platforms than others.  I'm hoping they don't have to shut down some of the platforms at it will wreak havoc on the evening commute.

We walked a mile in the rain last night. I got pretty wet.

Went to Route 22 and back at 11:30 AM - actually not bad for a Friday, I think people are staying off the roads.

I'd drive to the park and ride under the entrance to The Lincoln Tunnel and take the bus to PA. Easy trains from there.

Some snow accumulation report at higher elevations, especially the Newstead area.

Sump pump is already overwhelmed and not able to keep up with the flooding.

Just got an email alert that power is out at town hall.  I still have power uphill from there.  Is anyone else out?

Bus ride through Maplewood this morning around 10:00 am was interesting.  There was slushy snow sticking to the grassy areas and paved surfaces west of the tracks but it was all rain on the east side of the tracks.

Looking out the window, it is still all rain but the wind is really starting to pick up.   Good day to remain inside for the remainder of the storm if you can.

33° and the snow is starting to stick to the grass in eastern Maplewood

People are reporting outages on Park Road, Oakview and Summit Ave, I believe. Also Richmond, Lenox. Trees are being reported as down in quite a few places in town, according the FB SOMA group.

Seton Hall closed at 2:00.

Newstead had ice this morning followed by heavy wet slushy snow and it is still coming down!! Windy, branches falling, roads flooding — pretty miserable conditions. SO DPW has been out plowing, though, and I’ve seen work trucks consistently —

My son had to go out today. He said it was the wettest, heaviest snow he's ever seen. Like it was raining slush.

We've had constant snow since at least 7am here in western West Orange, and I'm surprised that the accumulation is so low.

I'm up in West Orange.  About 3" of heavy wet snow on the ground here.  Main roads are not bad but side streets, including on the hill in Maplewood, are slushy.

ETA: I'm over by the Zoo at the moment.

Thin slushy coating on some sidewalks and asphalt surfaces in Maplecrest, making for difficult walking conditions.  Fresh debris floating downstream is once again blocking storm drains, causing street flooding and some flooding on driveways.  Be careful out there.

Any idea when this will be over?

My driveway. The tree (not on our property) was very thoughtful, letting only a few medium-sized branches land on the house, but it was less kind to the powerlines.

wow - lucky!

Incredibly lucky. Minimal damage to the house and none that I can see to my car. Kind of miraculous, really.

it looks like it barely hit the car. very lucky.
