Furry Hearts Rescue Pups need foster/adopter

Furry Hearts Rescue is critically low on funds, but our volunteers are continuing the TNVR efforts in Maplewood. It is only with the help of our generous community that FHR can continue to rescue, and TNVR.

Kami is our new arrival to Furry Hearts.

Don't let that white muzzle fool you. Kami is just 3.5 years-old. She is a super sweet dog and is housebroken. Kami lived in a home with another dog and two cats. Sadly her family was loosing their home, and could not take Kami with them.

Stay tuned for more info on Sweet Kami.

I sent a PM to Jeanneh, but not sure if they are being seen in the "new MOL world" yet.

Just wondering about support (and required qualifications) for potential new pet owners/fosters as it's something I've been thinking about, but I've never had any pets other than the kind that live in cages - fish, hamsters, etc.

I don't think you've seen this lovely tribute marksierra posted a couple of days ago. Please feel free to share it around the Rescue; First Dog on the Moon would be delighted to know that the word's got out.

HI sac,

I don't see a message, but if would like more information re: any of Furry Hearts adoptable dogs, you may email info@furryheartsrescue.org.

You will get a response within 24 hours.

You do not have to be a previous dog or cat owner to adopt from FHR, you just have to be a good person, with patience and the willingness to learn how to be the best owner you can be.

Jeanneh, it's a cartooned story about the experience of rescuing and fostering dogs.

First Dog on the Moon is a political satire commentary cartoonist based in Australia. Occasionally, more serious/straight/personal stories come through.

Joanne--thank you for sharing the sweet cartooned foster stories. Very sweet.

Is fostering a reasonable way to 'test-drive' possible dog ownership?  Or do foster pets actually need a human with MORE pet experience due to their situation?

How long is a typical fostering 'engagement' or 'commitment'?

(I'm  interested, but I have a spouse to convince.)

Every Dog needing foster has a different story.

For example, I have an 11 year old cocker spaniel who needed me to save his life the day before Thanksgiving from the Newark kill shelter where he was scheduled to be killed the morning I got him. I had no idea what I was bringing home. He's perfect! He has nice manners, is potty trained, plays nice, gets along with others--human and non humans. His need was life, food, love, and care.

Part of fostering is getting to know the dog better so we ( the rescue) have a better idea what type of home he/she would fit in best.

ie: I recently learned my foster dog doesn't like to step in wet grass. I also have learned that between 10:30pm-11pm--is his cuddly time.

Sometimes the foster dogs are potty trained, sometimes not. Sometimes they have food or toy issues--sometimes not. Sometimes they are escape artists....lets hope they are not. Sometimes they might destroy a book, or a pillow, or worse.

I can't say if a foster dog is going to be a well behaved potty trained dog--we just don't know.

We can provide a crate, and if you wish food is also included.

We have several dogs with different personalities that are kept in crates a good portion of their day and we know we could know them better if they were placed in a home environment.

Updated status please, on Denise (Dee)?  Was she adopted yet? I'm hopeful she has been adopted- her sweet face speaks volumes of love!

Sadly, Dee has NOT found a forever home. I just saw her and got some really tight hugs and a happy kisses from her last Saturday.

This is heartbreaking to hear, jeanneh. I wish she did not need to be an ''only''.  I'd take her in a heartbeat!

Thanks!  and thanks for your PM.  I sent an email tonight about Kami.  She looks and sounds like a sweetheart!

@sac, I just saw Kami cross-posted on Eleventh Hour Rescue's site today and thought about emailing Furry Hearts about her, but I will back off if you think you're likely to adopt her. Have you heard back about her?

(We're finally starting to plan to adopt a nice well-adjusted dog buddy for our poor Stella, and Kami sounds like a great candidate, especially because she's cat-friendly too. Plus, what a cutie!)

Yes, I just heard back from them (as they've been swamped with that awful cat situation for the last couple of days.)  We think it is likely that we will adopt Kami, but we need to go through the application process with Furry Hearts now.  I hope you find a good buddy for Stella and I'll let you know if something changes for us.

Thanks, and good luck with the adoption. I'm happy that she'll have a loving home!

That's wonderful news! I hope you do adopt her and that you will all be very happy. She sounds like a great dog.

Both Dixie and Kami--adoptions pending.

This Sunday is an adoption event at Puppy Love.

Furry Hearts Rescue is desperate for foster homes for their cats, kittens and dogs. Totally overloaded this summer--they have run out of space and cannot continue to rescue until the cats and dogs in their care are placed.

When you foster, you help save a life. It's like being a superhero! Except, using only your human powers you provide a safe and loving environment for a needy cat or dog until their forever home is found. NO SUPER POWERS NEEDED.

Help your local rescue help local cats and dogs. Interested? Want to know more?

Email info@furryheartsrescue.org and title your email "I CAN FOSTER". Someone will reach out to you ASAP. ---that will probably be me!

Please email Furry Hearts Rescue at info@furryheartsrescue.org

If you are ready to foster a dog. They have a many that would benefit from being in a home with a family instead of cooped up in small crates all day.

Venus - LOVES KIDS!
Who will be the lucky person who snaps up the AMAZING Venus? Venus is a 7-year-old American bulldog who looks like a cross between a marshmallow and a gargoyle. Her funny face will make you smile every time you see her, and her calm, loving personality will make her a therapy dog for everyone in the house.
Venus has no health or behavior problems, although she could stand to lose a few pounds (we're working on it!). She's quite simply a low-maintenance, low-energy lovebug who adores kids and charms everyone she meets. She would like to be your only pet, but believe me when I tell you that everyone from your mom to your mailman will fall in love with her.
Venus is 100% housetrained, non-destructive, not a big barker and walks like a dream on-leash. She is currently being fostered in a home with a 6-year-old, a 3-year-old and a newborn and she loves them all. She asks for nothing but a soft pillow and the pleasure of your company. Whoever adopts Venus is lucky indeed!
