In a role reversal, it seems that sharks are now the prey of other marine creatures.
First, it has been recently discovered that leopard seals have been targeting sharks off the New Zealand coast. Researchers aren't sure whether this has always been the case, or if the marine environment has changed, leading the leopard seals to attack the sharks, which is a risky move, given that both are apex predators.
Then, in north Queensland, a shark which had taken a fisherman's bait has, in turn, been taken by a crocodile!
No doubt, if the shark hadn't become entangled in some old fishing line on the banks of the Proserpine River, where it had been caught, then it may have put up more of a fight.
As it was .. with a gulp or two, it was gone!
Yebbut, did anyone consult the penguins??
