Experience with DirecTV (cable+internet)+ AT&T (cellular)?

Does anyone have experience with DirectTV + AT&T? There are some good deals on bundling AT&T cellular (we'll have 3 smartphones) and DirecTV home cable+internet but I'm reluctant to commit if the DirecTV cable service and/or internet quality in Maplewood is spotty. They are offering to install "satellite dishes on top of poles" instead of satellite dishes on rooftops. Anyone have experience with this?

I don't live in Maplewood anymore, but I have both, and live in Long Valley and have great reception. I highly recommend DirectTV, plus great customer service. I'm glad I left Comcast! When you make your decision, ask friends who have it (or me), $100 off for you and other person, (each), for new customers.

Doesn't it involve a satellite dish? I've heard many problems with those.

You will be receiving satellite internet service? You can only get up to 24Mbps and that's maximum. I think you need to ask them exactly what they would be providing you.

Yes it does, but the new dishes are wonderful. I've not lost service during snow or heavy rain. If you have a generator you will not lose service during power loss. My neighbor had TV during Sandy.

Yes, I had DirecTV during Sandy and it never blinked. The problem was that there was no NJ TV. All I could get for local news was Long Island and Philly.

I didn't use DirecTV for Internet because it was essentially DSL coming in over the phone line. No, thanks.

Interesting... I need to learn more about their internet speeds before making this decision...

A friend of mine in San Francisco has the whole bundle with the ATT cell phones and all she does is ***** about the lousy internet and problems with her cell phone bills. Will DirecTV's internet now be Time Warner since the merger? I'm wondering about this myself for next year when my 2 year Comcast deal ends.

No, while DirecTV is owned by AT&T, the Time Warner/AT&T merger is only about Time Warner programming. Charter bought Time Warner's cable plant and in NJ that's only in a limited area. AT&T operates U-verse--which does provide super high-speed internet--but not in NJ.
