Car Insurance: How much coverage is advised?

If he resides with you, you can remove him but he'll be left on as "additional driver" which still comes with some sort of surcharge. Also you may end up losing the multi car discount for having three cars so you'll probably end up saving nothing.

Would it make sense for me to take him off of our policy? I know his insurance would go up, but maybe our coverage for the other two cars would go down?

I don't think that if you have three cars and three drivers you can take him off unless he will NEVER drive the cars. (i.e. if there was an accident and he was driving, I don't know that it would be covered.)  But check with your insurance company on that.

You're probably right. And if he was excluded I can see them writing an exclusion to that effect.

@debby: progressive has a policy that is based on mileage. Progressive snap I think it is. I did a quote for mine and they came in lower than GEICO. I wfh 3 days a week and kids school is half a mile away.  Your premiums are adjusted at the end of the year up or down depending on how much you drive. I'm not certain if it's offered in all states though. Worth a look.
