Bring Out Your Dead! The celebrity death thread....

Just now turned on WBGO, and there it was.

If I may indulge in a last encore.  Aretha Franklin does "Don't Play That Song (You Lied)."  I've always been blown away by artists who accompany themselves on the piano.  The piano commands the energy investment from the hands, fingers, arms, legs and feet movements all while the soul is being expressed with the voice.  Aretha was a natural prodigy who did not read music.  In the second video, "The Makings of You," her voice and the piano are beautifully engaged in the gorgeous Curtis Mayfield number.  (Check out the Gladys Knight & the Pips version.)

Watching her funeral right now. If anyone is interested it will be shown in its entirety on BET

You beat me!  82 years old.  Everyone's waiting to hear what he died of ....... ummmmmm, he was 82?

Yes - it's on Amazon Prime.  Here's the overview:  An aging movie star (Burt Reynolds) accepts an invitation to receive a lifetime achievement award at a film festival, but the ceremonies are far from the glamour he anticipated. The former star reflects on his life while accompanied by a brash millennial chauffeur (Ariel Winter) in this dramedy written and directed by Adam Rifkin.

It's about a fictional actor - Vic Edwards, what I loved was they used footage from Burt's old movies and attributed them to Vic.  I see it got mixed reviews, but if you like Burt - you'll enjoy it.

Hmm. Good films, but I kinda liked that centerfold.

Was he the really hairy one? Or was that Joe Namath?

I guess it was Burt.

Apparently he regretted doing this photo, because he thought it distracted from the seriousness of his role in Deliverance.

Which I guess I need to re-watch now.

I recommend Burt's early 80s offbeat cop thriller Sharky's Machine.

I have no idea if Burt even actually wrote the letters to his fans that are collected in this book or if the whole thing was concocted by a writer, but the way they capture his voice and persona cracks me up.

I’m surprised no-one mentioned that Gary Kurtz has died... of Star Wars and The Dark Crystal fame. He was 78.

with so much going on, it’s hard to note two quiet men who slipped way over the past week, having changed the world quite radically:

And John Cunliffe, whose wonderful mind brought us Postman Pat, and other whimsical tales,

Charles Aznavour , 94

I am so deeply sad to read of his death. A masterful songwriter, a wonderful singer, a charming writer (my mother and I both loved his autobiography).

He had recently commented that his sister and he were going to live to be 100; I’m so sad for his family, for her...

No doubt you’ve heard that Buddy Holly’s Peggy Sue has died, aged 78.

Made a legend by her boyfriend. So sad

It seems like almost every few hours, there’s another door closing on a chapter of our lives...

The Beatles’ recording engineer Geoff Emerick has just died following a heart attack, aged 72.

Engineered “Odessey and Oracle” and “Bridge of Sighs,” and produced “Imperial Bedroom.” What was that other band, again?
