XFL - Discussion

Is anyone watching this?

I started watching so I could explain why it was terrible. Then it wasn't really terrible, and some of the rule changes are interesting. E.G. I saw a QB catch his first pass after defense batted it back to him, and he was able to successfully throw a second pass!

But tonight the commentators' origin stories of the players and coaches kind of reached a tipping point, and I recognized that they each have an NFL "almost made it" history. One player was a top draft pick, but had a car accident right before the draft. The coach who had promising career prospects was de-railed by an unexpected family crisis.

XFL was designed to be a football league with even MORE bread and circus than the NFL. But, if you are paying attention, it has an understory about second chances.

Watching its third week, I got a twinge of the same note "Field of Dreams" hit. They are all underdogs getting a second chance..

I'm rooting for them.

I found myself watching the 2nd half of a game last week with genuine interest. And I watched a little of last night's game. I agree that some of the rules changes are positive. In general, I think it has legs, but time will tell.

It is something between NFL  and college ball, and I watch both and accept their differences.

It's entertaining.

In general, the QBs are pretty bad.

The way they do kickoffs is cool.  The NFL should consider it.

And the QBs are the only ones who are well paid.

 Agreed.
