There are two minor systems coming our way this week.
The first comes this evening, Sunday Feb 17. There is a Winter Weather Advisory for tonight from the NWS, I’ll post it in the comments or the next post if you are reading this on MOL. Clouds move in this afternoon, followed by light snow probably starting after dark tonight. Sleet soon mixes in as the temperature struggles to stay above freezing and warmer air moves into the upper levels. Precipitation will likely turn to all rain in the early hours before dawn. There is a slight potential for a glaze of ice, but the models are in good consensus that we are just south of the line for any significant icing. Rain tapers off Monday morning and the temps should rise into the mid to high 30s. Snow totaling 1 – 3”, if it happens, should melt during the day Monday.
The next system, coming Wednesday Feb 20th, is more problematic. First, it is a long, slow system, potentially lasting over 24 hours as currently modeled. Second issue is that, although sustained, current projections show it running well south of us, meaning precipitation here will not be too intense at any one point. The problem is the temperature profile at this time is suggesting that there is a possibility of freezing rain overnight Wed into Thursday. This will bare watching over the next few days.

Just send them anyway, what’s the worst that could happen?
2019, turning the term 'snow day' into a cruel irony.
It's 7am. If it hasn't started snowing yet, can we assume it's not going to start ever?
I think our winters are becoming more like Virginia winters a decade ago. And Virginia has winters that south Carolina used to have. Climate change is very real.
Weather channel says, just clouds.

I think we can assume some sort of precipitation some time on Wednesday.
Well, I didn't mean forever ever.

Virginia is about to get more snow than we will from the Wednesday storm.
And Seattle, where it almost never snows, had two feet last week.
