what car should we get???

we are looking to buy a nice, but non-luxury car. priorities are...

good price

good fuel economy

will last & last & last....is known to last forever...many many miles

will be able to pull a 2,000 lb trailer

will fit 5 people comfortably (no car seats)

non-suv

-the subaru outback is one option that we have come up w/ in this very early stage. -figured this is also a good option to hear what you all may recommend.

thanks so much!

After reading this the first thing that popped into my mind was a Subaru, then I saw it was one you are already considering. I had one years ago (1988 Subaru Justy) and it barely sipped gas and just about had to be beaten to death with a sledge hammer. I really miss that car and wish I could afford a new Subaru.

Subaru's are great (I've had 2), but consider a used Mercedes. An E-Class seats 5 pretty comfortably. I bought one a year ago for pretty cheap and it's the best car I've ever owned. Even if it's 13 years old.

that towing capacity may be challenge in a small car.

We have loved our CR-V to death for 16 years now, and I just bought the younger sibling, the HR-V. Not sure about towing ability on the HR-V, but I'd bet the CR-V could do it.

They stopped making it.
