Wall A/C Units

Will most appliance stores not only install a wall a/c unit but also remove the old one? I went on the Home Depot website & they don't provide any information about their delivery & installation services for ac units.

Check with PC Richards, although you may have to go with a specialty hardware or appliance store. Is it just sliding into a sleeve or does the space need to be custom-fitted etc?

FYI, the DPW accepts old units any time for disposal.

Also FYI, we have 2 wall units, one fairly new, the other one about 4 years old but in proper working order we are looking to sell / get rid off.

It fits into a sleeve. I'm in a condo & the sizes are pretty uniform. My problem is needing a professional to do the installation & take away the old unit. FTW, I don't drive, so it would be difficult for me to get the old one to the DPW.

I don't know if they would take away the old unit but I had our handyman install our AC units.  We use Mark Persaud who's great and detailed oriented.

Thanks for the recommendation. If Lowe's or HD won't do the install, I'll call Mark.

If anyone knows or finds someone who will do the cutting and carpentry necessary to put a bigger thru wall unit in, let me know.  I started a thread about my own thru wall problem the other day.  All the potential replacements for the AC I have now are at least slightly bigger, even though the existing one is really a window AC and not a true thru wall AC.

I see - if it is less an "installation" and more of a "slide one out and slide the other one in," I'd be happy to do the neighborly thing and pick up the new one up for ya, take the old one out, put the new one in and drop off the old one off at the DPW...

lanky,

The size of the unit was never mentioned, but if you think you'll need a hand with Mrs. GB's a/c, I'm generally available most afternoons.

Lanky & Tom, thank you for your generous offer of help. I'm still waiting to hear from my super about the model(s) which are uniformly used in the building & the supplier. Once I have that information, I may take you both up on your offer. I'm so appreciative of the support I've always gotten from the MOL community.

Roger that, Tom & Mrs. GB, I recently put 2 of these in my rental home at about shoulder height, thankfully they weighed less than the 50 year old seemingly iron-laden beasts that came out...

I can't be available on Sunday afternoon, but otherwise, good to go on reasonable notice.

Problem solved. Karl's Appliances carries the models that are used throughout my building & they will install & remove the old units. My thanks to Lanky & Tom R for stepping up & volunteering their time & energy. I love MOL as a resource for advice & assistance.

Bub, I recently had somewhat of a similar experience. I originally purchased the unit from PC Richards but their install company won't get on a roof to do the install so I returned it to PC Richards. Someone recommended Triangle in Bayonne https://www.triangletvonline.com

and I purchased the same model again from Triangle ($10 cheaper) and their install guys came and did a really great job - I am sure they could do adjustments too. My new one was half an inch smaller all around. Give David at Triangle a call.  FYI the install was not cheap but they hauled away the old one and did a thorough job.

I have found Karls installers to be very good. I had them replace my custom sized wall unit a couple of years ago.

Glad it worked out and enjoy the cool climate!

Tom R. Tried responding to your PM. Yes. The little ranch situated sideways which now has a 2nd story.
