I am going to ask for confirmation from our hunter non par but in my book that bird on the car seat aint no turkey vulture...thats a turkey.
Wouldnt be the first time that law enforcement didnt get it right. I remember I had to stick around after finding 30 some bags of animal torsos in the reservation as the sheriffs couldnt identify them either.
The bird in the pic...legs to long, tail feathers reddish brown compared to the rest of the plumage, too much variation in the plumage.. turkey vultures dont have these white marbeled feathers...

I can't access the article on my iPhone, but the title of the article seems to be "turkey crashes through windshield." Not "turkey vulture crashes through windshield." So, yeah, it's a turkey. Did the article say otherwise?

The title of the article in the Ledger was, "turkey vulture crashes the windshield on route 80, injuring passenger." (Wife bruised & shaken up but no serious injuries).
No, different car, different wife, just reading from article. As for vulture vs other turkeys, no idea, seen a lot of turkeys over the years, but not the genetic kind.

As an historical note, Benjamin Franklin proposed the turkey as our national bird rather than the eagle, but got voted down.
Anyone remember that show "WKRP in Cincinnati" when they threw the turkeys (thinking they could fly) out of the airplane as a Thanksgiving promotion? LOL!

There is a large roost in New Hope/Lambertville. They come in before sundown and land on the roof of the New Hope theater and in the hills on Lambertville. There are about one hundred of them.

Actually I think you guys are confusing wild with domestic turkeys. VERY different animals with the wild ones winning in the brains department

Vultures, blech, nasty little scavengers. I prefer these guys MUCH more, they work for their food (snapped this shot this morning).
