VERY large birds in Millburn

Well poor things ...domesticated turkeys are indeed stupid. They cant fly (to fat) so they tend to panic and run. If they hit a fence they still keep running and then crush smaller/weaker ones underneath them... Yup not the sharpest tools in the shed.

I am going to ask for confirmation from our hunter non par but in my book that bird on the car seat aint no turkey vulture...thats a turkey.

Wouldnt be the first time that law enforcement didnt get it right. I remember I had to stick around after finding 30 some bags of animal torsos in the reservation as the sheriffs couldnt identify them either.

The bird in the pic...legs to long, tail feathers reddish brown compared to the rest of the plumage, too much variation in the plumage.. turkey vultures dont have these white marbeled feathers...

Just look at this pic.

I can't access the article on my iPhone, but the title of the article seems to be "turkey crashes through windshield." Not "turkey vulture crashes through windshield." So, yeah, it's a turkey. Did the article say otherwise?

The title of the article in the Ledger was, "turkey vulture crashes the windshield on route 80, injuring passenger." (Wife bruised & shaken up but no serious injuries).

Wait, was that YOUR car?

No, different car, different wife, just reading from article. As for vulture vs other turkeys, no idea, seen a lot of turkeys over the years, but not the genetic kind.

Deer are a very close second in stupidity.

And of course humans are tied for first. This pic was taken at an office I worked in a while back in Ramsey.

Game set match. Humans win.

Turkeys are stupid!

Maybe not.

As an historical note, Benjamin Franklin proposed the turkey as our national bird rather than the eagle, but got voted down.

New Providence was orginally named "Turkey" in 1720.

Anyone remember that show "WKRP in Cincinnati" when they threw the turkeys (thinking they could fly) out of the airplane as a Thanksgiving promotion? LOL!

Les Nessman, "The turkeys are hitting the pavement like bags of wet cement. As God my witness, I thought turkey's could fly!"

oh my lord are you kidding me!!! They did that!!!! Oh god..people won that contest...

Pixi, it was a sitcom, not real life. Although, it would have been interesting to watch.

LOL oh thank god!!!! I thought you guys were serious!!

We can be...Wanna take a ride in a helicopter with a couple of gyrating burlap sacks? blank stare

"Freeze, you effing bastard!" Dave, the beginning was the sheer majesty of human flight. By the time the eagle landed with its prey, I nearly blew an artery from laughing. It was Captain "Bird Strike" Sully in the Hudson all over again.

I love turkey vultures! They fly magnificently.

Indeed. The flight of the turkey vulture is majestic. One morning I was in the Home Depot Vauxhall parking lot and witnessed them in flight. They do it so effortlessly.

There is a large roost in New Hope/Lambertville. They come in before sundown and land on the roof of the New Hope theater and in the hills on Lambertville. There are about one hundred of them.

Actually I think you guys are confusing wild with domestic turkeys. VERY different animals with the wild ones winning in the brains department

That one had a good day. Look how he catches all those updrafts!

Maybe Romney's on his way to campaign in town.

Vultures, blech, nasty little scavengers. I prefer these guys MUCH more, they work for their food (snapped this shot this morning).

Great shot. I love hawks, too.

I sometimes see ospreys over the highways. Gorgeous.
