US beats Netherlands!

"USA have secured their first-ever win against Netherlands thanks to Wood's historic goal with one of the last kicks of the game. What a friendly this was! Seven goals, a bunch of lead chances and more strikes against the woodwork that I can remember. The plucky Americans once again prove themselves against high-calibre opponents. However, question marks abound once again around Hiddink's team, who must pick themselves up for a crucial qualifier against Latvia."

All goals for USA have officially been credited to Loretta Lynch, of course.

I was very surprised that they came back. They had been pretty good at being 'alright' for stretches and then drifting into 'just not good enough' and eventually losing. When they went down, I was pretty sure it was over. Good on them for fighting back.

Actually, the real secret to the USA team success was the crazy loud cheering from two recent Maplewood college grads on their honeymoon in Amsterdam, my daughter and son-in-law!

Sweet! :heart emoji

The next friendly for the USMNT is on Wed against Germany. I'm excited.

Worth pointing out that the USWNT kicks off their World Cup campaign at 7:30 tonight against Australia! Friendlies are good and all, but this one counts!

Agreed. See my other thread that I stared about the Womens World Cup.

Yeah. I saw that and then felt immediately ashamed. As penance I'll read all the posts about the Maplewood Post Office that were posted in the past 48 hours.

That seems excessively harsh on yourself.

And the USMNT today beat Germany. Nice job.

Bradley

...was a monster. Took one counter from central defense all the way to the other box by himself.

...hit Dix in the chest at full stride with a 20 yard pass.

...is the new face of American soccer.
