Tweet from N.Y. Attorney-General, elect.

"Nobody is above the law, not even @realDonaldTrump.

Forcing the nation's top law enforcement official to resign doesn't give him a free pass-it only raises suspicions.

I want NYers to know I'll hold those in power accountable & make sure the Special Counsel's work continues."

There's a new sheriff in town.

I hope she goes after the whole lot of them. Maybe he will implode and resign to prevent being indicted. My dreams are valid.

She's Donald Trump's worst nightmare.

I wish I could be more optimistic. Her predecessors were anti-Trump, along with people in NYC such as Preet Bharara, and it hasn't made a dent. I'd prefer she focus on cleaning up Albany and help people who are being disadvantaged by Trump's policies.

I actually believe what Trump said yesterday. If the next two years are just going to be investigations, he'll spend all of his energy fighting back and not accomplish anything else. I'd rather he get some things done - fund a new tunnel, etc. - then when he's out, people can investigate and pore through his tax returns all they want.

@apple44, do you really believe he could get anything constructive done if he weren't impeded by investigations? I do not.

Actually yes. Infrastructure is one area that is relatively straightforward, as it's mostly moving money around. People have a plan to fix many of the NJ Transit and Amtrak problems, they need federal funding and approvals. But the people asking for that mostly are Democrats, and if he feels victimized by us because he is under investigations, he won't budge.

what can the NY attorney general do about Trump? What jurisdiction does that position hold over the President? I don’t understand.

@apple44, I haven't seen him prove to be competent at anything, and he doesn't understand anything except self-aggrandizement. I think if the nation needed him to put his socks on properly, we couldn't depend on it.

I don't disagree, but the tunnel project doesn't require his competence. It simply requires him to agree this is worth spending money on and putting it in the budget.

His business is headquartered in NY. Tax evasion. Accepting money from foreign entities for his campaign.

The possibility of violating N.Y. financial laws and regulations. Possible tax fraud... him, Barbie, Uday and Qusay.

he's already withholding the funding out of spite. I can't see him budging anyhow.

infrastructure is anything but straightforward, since the R's and the D's have completely different ideas about how to fund it.

Ah, yes, got it. Sorry. Wasn’t thinking about him as a NYer.

Perhaps overall across the country, but in terms of the NJT tracks and tunnel, I think they have run the numbers and all Trump has to do is approve it the federal contribtuion. And technically, Trump isn't really an "R" when it comes to ideology. He could work with the Dems on this if he wants to.

Yes, and also because it doesn't interest his base. But it's pretty straightforward and he could come up with a deal with Cuomo, Murphy, Schumer et al if he wants to put some accomplishments on the board. Hopefully with the House situation, there might be leverage. Give him a few billion for his ridiculous wall in return for a tunnel. We can always knock down the wall later. grin

This is the biggest surprise to me with this presidency - you would think building tunnels, bridges, airports, transit systems would be interesting to him.

Keeping the Libs crying is much more important than putting some accomplishments on the board.  Trump has already accomplished more than any president in the country's history.

I think you are right. He could have done tunnels and infrastructure in the last two years, while he had full control of congress. But he didn't. So he ie definitely not going to do it now. And also, it's not like he has limited bandwidth so an investigation would deprive him of time to get anything else done by the way. We are talking about a guy that watches fox news day all day long. Meanwhile his cronies are robbing us all blind. Investigate the heck out of them, I say. All of them. Doesn't Kushner have legal presence in jersey?

Nope. Why build something if you can't make a profit from it? If he could figure out a way to put toll booths on it and have them leased to one of his family's companies he would build a bridge or tunnel.

These past few posts are talking about Trump as if he resembled some kind of normal human being.

Building infrastructure would do nothing to expand his political power. Why would he do it?

It's been two years now, we should know better.

When Trump was first elected, I thought he'd go the infrastructure route -- getting congress to approve big projects, putting his name on things being built around the country, and associated with the jobs he was creating in the process. And that would draw more people into the Republican party.

But his love of creating short-term surprises for emotion-laden attention didn't allow for that. He didn't exploit the simple and easy infrastructure route to look like a 'great' president because it seems too boring - and perhaps because it's been done before.

So, unless infrastructure updates can be combined with some sort of surprising new attention-twist, they are not going to be his thing.
