This is the worst morning so far re heat and humidity. Some of the very early mornings this past week were pleasant. Not today.
How far are we from drought conditions? Looking at the Passaic River on the way to the city that thing looks as dry as I've seen it.

According to this website, rainfall for the year is within 10% of normal. Doesn't mean the last few weeks haven't been tough on gardens, but were not in a drought yet.
I don't recall more times that it was supposed to rain but it never did, as seem to have occurred over the past couple months.

perhaps the Passaic River has always been as dusty as it is at present but I romantized it in my mind for whatever reasons. We are in normal rainfall conditions. I wish someone would explain this to my lawn thats acting like it's about to die from thirst as I refuse to do mother nature's job.

I read yesterday we should get about 4 inches of rain in July here, and so far this month we have gotten less than an inch. These crazy soaking 5 minute monsoons don’t help plants and lawn and trees at all. It all comes down so fast it just washes away.
Temperature dropped about 14 degrees after the storm that just passed. Temp will now bump up to low 80s, but that's much better than high 90s.

Storm went just north of us with torrential rain, lots of lightening and some hail

Yeah, I was watching the storm when it was west of us. It looked like it would be a direct hit, but then I realized it was moving northeast and it looked like it could just miss us. I guess it did.

Thunderstorms likely this afternoon and evening.
Heat continues today, perhaps a bit cooler as clouds roll in this morning. By 11 am we could start seeing thunderstorms that are likely to continue throughout the afternoon, with another line of storms possible this evening as the cold front moves through. These storms could bring gusty winds and heavy rain. Minor flash flooding of streets and low lying areas possible.
While we could see some heavy showers today, this really won't be the sort of long soaking rain we need to alleviate local dry conditions. Conditions in our area are not yet at the level of a drought, but remain abnormally dry.
