There is no such thing as "Winter Storm Jonas."

Really.  Both towns have succumbed to the hype.

Winter storms do not have names.  The Weather Channel does not have the right to give them names.  It is inappropriate for our officials to participate in hyping some commercial media outlet's product.

Agreed...and coffee does help (especially when you are doing those Elvish to Klingon translations smile )

I agree 100%. Names are stupid.

If we're going to start naming storms after pop bands, I am eagerly looking forward to Winter Storm Maroon.

I'd prefer Five Seconds of Summer!!!

But what else will I use in my hashtags?

#blizzard2016 is winning on facebook.

When I first heard the name of this storm, my reaction was "What happened to Storms B through I"?

The Washington Post went with #snowzilla.

I've been using #snowzilla but #jonasblizzard is trending on Twitter now

You are 100% CORRECT Max.

Thank you. This has been driving me crazy.

I give WO Mayor Parisi props for not using the name in his robocall to residents. He just referred to the first major storm of winter.

Which raises a question: Is it any more a blizzard (at least so far) than it is a Jonas?

My friends in DC are using #snOMG

Yes.  It is officially a blizzard.

"Blizzard(abbrev. BLZD)- A blizzard means that the following conditions are expected to prevail for a period of 3 hours or longer:

Sustained wind or frequent gusts to 35 miles an hour or greater; and
Considerable falling and/or blowing snow (i.e., reducing visibility frequently to less than ¼ mile)"

I've seen a couple people call this storm David Snowie and I like that.
