The worst movie you've ever seen...

Another vote for Godfather 3. There’s a sequel that shouldn’t have been made. Maybe it’s the real life extension of the entire theme: make your money and lose your soul.

I hated the Hobbit. I loved the book and there was plenty of material for a feature film or, perhaps, 2 feature films but a trilogy made the thing practically homeopathic.

King Ralph. First time I ever walked out of a movie theater... and I love John Goodman...

I've always hated Grease, a movie many love, including my husband.  I don't know why.  It's probably a two hour movie but seems like six

Open Water. My friend and I laughed when it ended.

Water World with 'I am my best star' Kevin Costner

I liked Close Encounters.

Sex and the City 2 was really bad.

Worst move though was  material girls  with the the Duff sisters.  My 10 year old nephew begged me.  I dare any adult to sit though that without saying that was the absolute worst movie ever made.

Let It Be was not really a movie - just was shown in theaters but in today's world would be a PBS special.  Magical mystery tour never lived up to the hype, but the music was good.

Francis Ford Coppola was almost broke and made Godfather 3 to help avoid bankruptcy.

Oh the horribleness of those movies. I thought Part I would never end, and that was only after the first twenty minutes or so. I never bothered to watch parts II and III.

And MMT was a TV special from the start, Verjus and the Park Wood don’t offer food in Maplewood Village, and some people claim Fountains of Wayne don’t qualify as a band named after a town. C’est la vie.

Every time I turn on thew news I feel like I am watching the worst movie ever.  DJT is utterly unbelievable in the role of POTUS and the film is clearly a tragedy but the screen writers seem to be trying to play it as a comedy.  question

All true except I have to side with the people who say FoW is not named after a town.   "Chicago" is named after a town.  "Boston" is named after a town.  FoW is named after a (defunct) store in a town.

While I'm on the subject of "Best Picture(s)" that I hate, -there is always "Rocky". I will never understand how such a cartoon of a film got to be "Best Picture" (beating out "Network" and Taxi Driver" btw).

I particularly hated how we were supposed to seriously accept the continuous avalanche of vicious head shots to Stallone with zero defense as anything remotely even survivable. I kinda found it insulting.

Some might argue that Chicago is named after a city.  Not the City but a city.

I rest my case:

"Chicago"

Chicago, Chicago that toddling town

Chicago, Chicago I will show you around

I love it bet your bottom dollar you'll lose the blues in Chicago, Chicago

The town that Billy Sunday couldn't shut down

On state street that great street I just want to say

They do things that they don't do on Broadway

They have the time, the time of their life

I saw a man he danced with his wife in Chicago, Chicago my home town

Chicago, Chicago that toddling town

Chicago, Chicago I'll show you around

I think there’s a big difference between worst movies of all time vs movies any of us personally didn’t like.

I've seen an awful lot of really bad movies, but to my recollection there are only two movies I didn't finish watching: Magnolia and Requiem For A Dream. I know both are considered by most people to be great films, and given my tastes, they both should have been right up my alley. But OMG, wretched.

I LOVED Requiem for a Dream. Go figure.

Worst:

  • Meet The Parents
  • Anything with Sarah Jessica Parker

Corollary: LA Story.

I hated LA Story. Hated it...

I actually liked LA Story!  Worse Steve Martin movie was Mixed Nuts.

Here's Wikipedia's breakdown:

Of course this thread is your opinion - but this list is a good reminder of some of the bad ones - like Gigli and Ishtar.

Agreed.  I'd also add that ultra low budget shlock created by people on the margins of or outside the movie industry, like Ed Wood, really doesn't count.  Of course that stuff is bad.

how about a combo award for worst movie and title at the same time:

Ballistic: Ecks vs. Sever

every time I read it, it grates my brain

I always thought that "Battlefield Earth" was kind-of a hoot, same with "Waterworld". I never took them seriously and maybe that's the secret required to at all enjoy some of these "worst ones" -even the ones that take themselves seriously. Not always easy I admit. My own reactions seem random sometimes.

It's also amazing to read the WIDE diversity of many reviews on websites such as Rotten Tomatoes or Netflix. As I've gotten older and read many reviews that claim "boring, too slow, nothing happens, depressing" -I figure they are mostly young viewers bathed in the glory and expectations of SuperHero movies and that I will conversely enjoy what they can't sit through, -such as Frances McDormand in the HBO miniseries "Olive Kitteridge" which I thoroughly enjoyed.

That’s pretty much how I read the thread title, but c’est la ...

There's a movie about Nikola Tesla which might be on Netflix. I think it was made in Czechoslovakia. The acting is almost as if it's an example of how not to act. It's worse than Reefer Madness. I like Tesla's life story, but my wife and I were not able to tolerate the entire film.

My cousin waxes almost poetic when she talks about what a bad movie "Pootie Tang" is.

Someone mentioned Grease in another post.  I will definitely agree with that.  My theory is that a lot of people like it who watched it when they were really young.  Since I never saw it until I was a senior in high school, I just thought it was really lame and I hate the music.

I also don't like The Sound of Music.  I'll probably get some heat for that but I've had to watch it waaaay too many times.

Another person mentioned Serendipity.  That was also a terrible movie that I watched on an international flight.  Serendipity epitomizes crappy in flight entertainment.

Looking at the list, I love Mommie Dearest.  It's so campy and unintentionally hilarious that it's good.  I also kind of liked Mixed Nuts but that's because I love Madeline Kahn.

Anybody see The Happening, one of the really bad sci fi movies by Shyamalan?  It's not just bad, its inscrutable.   You watch it and continuously think "wtf is this?"

Only movie I ever walked out on was Things Are Tough All Over (Cheech and Chong). Worst movie I've seen in the theater in last several years is Boyhood. Cool concept, but ultimately I found it brutally boring.

(ETA: Recently watched Brad's Status on demand. Awful.)

I loved Boyhood but then I lived in Texas for much of the time the movie covered.

The worst movie I have seen recently was Batman vs Superman (on a long flight). Pacific Rim was pretty wretched.

Film Forum had a great double bill of "Plan 9 From Outer Space" and Tim Burton's "Ed Wood" a while back, and the audience loved both. I've always (unironically) enjoyed Wood's movies because every time you watch them you notice something new.

agree about the sound of music.  really hard to watch.   Once was more than enough.

Also thought Mrs Doubtfire was horrible, although many of my friends (and wife) seemed to enjoy it.

Grease never bothered me.  mindless entertainment --
