The Tennis Thread - Roger Federer

Roger Federer accepted a wildcard into the 500 level Rotterdam event in order to pursue the world #1 ranking.  If he reaches the semifinals, he will take the #1 spot from Rafael Nadal and will surpass Andre Agassi as the oldest man to reach the #1 ranking.  Federer is 36 years old, will be 37 in August.

I love Agassi, but would love to see Federer do this.   I also hope Fed plays long enough to rob the morally questionable Jimmy Connors of many of his records.   Connors (now 65 years old!!) holds the record for the most titles won (109), most matches played, and most match wins.  Connors retired at age 40.  He was an innovator and a fiery competitor, but such a ...... jerk.

Go Roger!!  He trounced the very nice and capable Belgian, Ruben Bemelmans, 6-1, 6-2 in 47 minutes today.

This would be awesome - I'm a huge Federer fan.  It feels like the Federer/Nadal rivalry has been going on forever.  (You can unlike a post by clicking on 'Liked')

Thanks Jamie - I unliked the post.

Yes -- Federer and Nadal played their first match in 2004.  It's fantastic that they are still competing at the very top of the sport.

Federer did it!  Fantastic.  What an athlete!
