Side streets are still a mess. Main roads have been plowed.
Roads have been plowed but they are still snow covered. I have seen very few vehicles on the road.
Over the last several decades, SO DPW has regularly gotten the roads cleared more quickly and completely than their counterparts in nearby towns. I’m thinking specifically of Maplewood, Orange, Newark, Millburn, and Livingston. I don’t remember about E. Orange and Irvington.
Having said that, I can’t confirm that’s also true today. I haven’t been on the road today. I do see evidence a snowplow has been by here earlier, but there’s a good amount of snow blanketing the street now. Haven’t seen a plow in a few hours.
I've noticed the roads are still snow covered, especially the back streets and even parts of Springfield Avenue
Essex Ave was plowed by three trucks in tandem - private contractor. That was around 1:30 p.m. It had been plowed before that but I don't know what time.
I was impressed with the job that was done by the trio of trucks that plowed in my neighborhood.
The past several years my neighborhood was plowed by the Maplewood DPW pickup trucks that seemed to think that their job was to plow as much snow as possible on the corner sidewalks and drains. Last year the piles on my corner were over 4 feet tall and the only way I could create a passageway for pedestrians was to chop out steps in the frozen snow.

Wish they would salt the roads. Weekend storms suck
---mixed feelings on that one. Yes, S.O. side roads are clean. Maplewood' still snow covered but passable.
So. on one hand, salted roads are safer and easier to navigate. But that costs money and the salt is not good for our undercarriage and the environment.
So....
Drive slowly (I know its hard for some people). and know that the most likely place to lose control of your vehicle is in turning a corner on a street that does not have a stop sign.

How are the roads? I’m wondering about the side streets, Springfield Ave, Millburn Ave and Valley st.
