The Korean Summit thread - The post-summit NK nuclear expansion edition.

So, I figure it's about 50-50 that the meeting even takes place.

If it does, 10-1 it's a fustercluck.

In olden days, like 2016, a summit like this would take months of preparation by dozens of diplomatic professionals. And at the summit, you'd have the guy on our side be pretty darn fluent of all of the issues and in a lot of depth.

In 2018, not so much.

With just one month until a scheduled sit-down with North Korea’s leader, President Donald Trump hasn’t set aside much time to prepare for meeting with Kim Jong Un, a stark contrast to the approach of past presidents.
“He doesn’t think he needs to,” said a senior administration official familiar with the President’s preparation. Aides plan to squeeze in time for Trump to learn more about Kim’s psychology and strategize on ways to respond to offers Kim may make in person, but so far a detailed plan hasn’t been laid out for getting Trump ready for the summit.

Xi Jinping and Kim Jong Un give Trump an atomic wedgie but Trump comes home and tells his loyal base that he did a great job.

As a devout Peanuts fan, this one goes in my picture file.

Nope, uh huh not gonna happen and The Great Orange One will say it was all his idea to save face

One should not make predictions about one so unpredictable.

Oh, I don't know about that. Trump is pretty predictable to be horrible in everything he says and does.

Kim, or "Mr. Un," as Pompeo called him, will sneak up behind Trump, "pants" him and muss his hairdo.

Then someone will tell Trump/Pompeo that the Kim clan has pulled the same stunt a few times before.

Trump will return triumphant and tell his supporters that he's done something no past POTUS has ever done.

Alternatively, maybe Trump, Pompeo, and Bolton will conduct the meeting perfunctorily and, having failed, begin bombing with a "Hey, we tried" excuse.

some among us on MOL, (well, one anyway) may think this is an example of Trump's diligence.

Pence was tasked with saying something to make North Korea cancel a summit.  He's not stupid, he's an amoral tool.

We should explain to NK that we usually restrict ignorant and stupid remarks to our president.

with both Bolton and Pence making similar comments, it couldn't have been an accident.

I guess NK is not privy to BCC's advice to ignore what is said and focus only on what is done.

I knew Obama would mess this up somehow.

Our President is a dick.

Most likely, from the moment Chump agreed to a summit, the adults in the government were looking for a way out knowing that nothing good would come of it.

Does he sign government documents with a sharpie?  Why would someone do that?

Geez, given the combined wisdom of Trump, Bolton, and Pence, together with the past practices of the Kims, how could this thing have fallen apart?

Has anyone done an analysis of his handwriting?

Its pretty funny, you can tell that he actually wrote (or, more likely, dictated) the letter.  It sounds like it was composed by a sixth grader.

Notice how he covers up the word "Sincerely".

It's clear that our dotard POTUS jumped the gun in an effort to be a dealmaking star. He's right about one thing: he did what no past president had done - elevate Kim on the world stage. Nice one, Mr. Dealmaker.

He had no choice. They took away his scented Crayola collection. He was nibbling on the waxy crayons.

But seriously, I'm sure he thinks of his signature more as an autograph and uses a Sharpie as an athlete or celebrity would.

What he has done is to commend Kim, thank him for release of the hostages, at the same time taking them to task for attacks on Pence, and other comments, and, most importantly, left wide open the suggestion of a future meting.

In stead of cherry picking what I said why don't you post the rest, or don't you recognize a bargaining position when you see it?

NK is doing the same.

Words, not actions.

 Opportunity for more words.
