Swap meets

I'm curious as to how actual swap meets work. I know there's something for our area online, but I'm curious about the old fashioned physical kind. Are those just a bunch of folks alking around a large open lot with widget in hand looking for someone that wants 1 ndd has a perfect green glidget for even trade?

I always thought swap meets were just plain old fashioned flea markets. Am I wrong?

I've never seen anyone "trade" anything at a swap meet. It seems the same as a flea market- everything is for sale.

That's what I thought, but the term 'swap' conjures up the image of trading, rather than selling, items.
