Super Bowl LIII. Rams vs Pats

How many people in our area are even interested in the game's outcome now that the teams are known?

I think most people (maybe even some pat fans too) are tired of seeing the Pats in another Super Bowl.  I don't know why but the Rams don't interest me at all, and they actually have a really nice team.

I was hoping it would be the Saints and Chargers, or even the Chiefs.  I would have loved to see Rivers or Breez get a ring.  Breez already has one, but Rivers has been shut out of the Super Bowl his whole career.  Neither of them are getting any younger so the chances are limited at this point in their careers.

The Chiefs will have plenty of chances as long as Mahomes stays healthy.  I would have loved to see him get to the Super Bowl with the way he played all year.  This kid is amazing with some of things he can do.

Any thoughts?  Not solicitating views about the sport itself, just this year's Super Bowl.

Even though I don’t like the Pats, (Giants and Jets fan, in that order) I found myself rooting for them last Sunday.

I think it just has to do with admiration for Brady and familiarity with the Pats after all these years more than anything else.

I have a hard time rooting for a team when I don’t know the players well.

I’m all in.  Been a Rams fan since I was a kid.  They’re exciting.  I think they’re gonna get crushed.

My sister was a Rams fan when she lived in LA in the early 80s, so even though I'm a Giants fan, I'll be behind the Rams. They're the underdogs, and everyone loves an underdog. Also, again as a Giants fan, seeing Brady not win a Superbowl just puts a smile on my face.

go Rams

I also think they will get crushed

Similar story here. I have hated the Pats over the years, but I have come to seriously respect Brady and Belichick for their incredible long-term record of excellence. Most every year they draft pick is 28th or 32nd or 27th or whatever, which for most teams in most years is a bad thing that leads to deterioration. But the Pats just keep rolling.

I totally agree you with the Pats accomplishments.  Belichick can take an average player and make him a superstar.  His ability to draw up plays based on who he has on the field and who he is playing against is simply amazing.  He could go down as the best NFL coach ever.  Definitely in my time at least.

The Rams can pull this game out if they can get Brady off the field.  The Rams have a high powered offense and they like the deep ball.  But if Brady is allowed to move the ball down the field in his normal methodical fashion they are done.  They can't let Brady have 7 -8 minute drives, the defense will be exhausted and Goff won't get as many touches.  The Rams need to come right out with the deep ball and hope they can take an early lead.  Brady doesn't like having to rely only on the passing game, it opens him up to getting sacked too much.  As good as Brady is, he gets rattled if you can get a couple of good hits on him early in the game.  Finally and most importantly, if the Rams have a lead late in the fourth quarter they can not allow Brady to get the ball back.  His ability to have game winning drives with less than 2 minutes left in the game is unbelievable.

And on the first day God created Tom Brady

On the second day he said "Can't top that"

And he took the rest of the week off

Nancy Pelosi gets Roger Goodell to postpone the Super Bowl until the government shutdown ends.

Guess who remain defending champs a little while longer.

If play they must, then Rams. What the Gints fan known as ridski said.

When your favorite NFC East team beats them in the Super Bowl, you can be forgiven for harrumphing at the Pats.

Wow, terrible game.  Incredibly boring and ugly football.

Nick Foles is still the last person to throw a Super Bowl touchdown.

The Rams QB looked, and played, like a 16 year old.  Some useless Rams O linemen did not help.  It's fine to marvel about Brady but respect must be paid to the ceaselessly excellent O line of Pats during this long dynastic period.   When needed, Brady has excellent pocket sense and has always had a great knack for knowing where and when to take 2 steps to avoid a sack.  His ability to shoot out quick accurate short passes helps (seems like every first drive play against the Jets for the last 15 plus years has been a quick 5 yard slant over the middle). Still, that O line has been a marvel over the years.

It's not that.  A good defensive battle can be great if it's a well-played game. The game last night was not well-played.
