Tropical Cyclone Alfred might only be travelling around 1 knot/hour but the winds are gusting around 95km/h (around 59mph, expected to be well over 60-65mph tonight). We’ve just been ordered to stay in one windowless room in our homes, by the Mayor’s office. Next 15 hours are critical.
Seriously, hoping you all will be safe whatever’s happening with your windy weather.
I was up in Provincetown and on Friday it was about 40 degrees, but with a sustained wind of 36mph gusting to 54mph, it was a wee bit chilly. We still did a 4-5 mile hike. I don't think I've ever hiked in wind that intense.
We survived! Oh my gosh, the winds - the ferocity of those gusts, from ground level all the way into the sky! (I can’t adequately describe it). Constant super-heavy rain for 5 days - currently stopped for a few hours. Some pretty bad flooding, but we’re safe with almost no damage (I have to check the shed).
No power since my Friday afternoon, it’s now 2am on Tuesday morning. Only just got a teeny bit of internet/email, I think because everyone else is asleep. No phone - I can text a little but that’s all. Trying to save battery, tho as I’ve used up all my chargers. Neighbour lost half her patio roof! The pieces landed up in my yard. Lots of trees down everywhere. Quite a bit flooding, but our street is ok. hey - the toilet still flushes! We had an indoor picnic for brunch on Sunday: tablecloth on the bed, warm savoury pies from a local shop, coffee - and a game of Trivial Pursuit!
