He must be removed.

The 25th amendment must be invoked and people need to take to the streets for his removal.

What is wrong with everyone here?  Stores are burnt down and everyone here is like "what, don't the stores have insurance".  Now a protest that is much smaller doing a small fraction of the damage we saw earlier is perpetrated on an organization who will just print the money to repair any damage.  Not to mention that this organization perpetuates needless suffering and death across the globe as standard operating procedure.

And now you're apoplectic?

In 2016 many people freaked out because they could not imagine Trump being president.  This group includes what is commonly known as the Cathedral.  The Cathedral is made up of many of our institutional powers in this country.  These include the beaurocratic state, the corporate press, academia, big tech, the military industrial complex, etc.

As a result, we got 3+ years of stories about how a sitting president was colluding with Russia.  Of course, there was really no evidence of this as the lynchpin was oppo research paid for by his political opponents.

Fast forward 4 years.  Another close election.  There was suspicious activity.  Nobody in the Cathedral seems interested in looking into this.  So, now you have > 70 Million who think they got hosed.  They may or may not be right about that.  The lame duck president is a narcissist, so he is not going to concede.  He's also incompetent,  so he can't effectively mount a challenge in any way as he has no plan.  But in the end, there are a lot of angry people in this country.  What you are seeing is the fringes of that group acting out.

And the picture is still hilarious.

I'm not.  At least these people had the guts to go after the people with whom they had a gripe.  Would you have felt better if they burnt down the local car dealer or looted the department store?

I see. Violence if fine if you have funny photos, and being angry over the police killing your friends, family, and neighbors  is equivalent to people being angry that their candidate lost an election. Got it.

I can't even.

And your prior post was pretty illuminating, albeit a bit weird.

Nice strawman.  Get back to me when you are able to muster some rational thought.  I know its difficult when you are being told to be outraged.

 where's the strawman?

I never said violence is fine.  What I said is that at least today the rage was targeted at the people with whom they have a gripe.

And I never compared the motivations.  People on all sides of the political spectrum are pissed and they have good reason for feeling that way.

I just need to add that db looks at a post where pvw is literally making an argument in my name and says.

drummerboy said:

Why not do it on a daily basis?  Trump gives his followers enough ammunition to do so.  Are you cool with that?

Do what on a daily basis?

 That's not a strawman.

Yeah, but you['re saying that people who believed the election was stolen have good reason.

They don't have good reason. They have, actually, no reason, other than that they believe Trump.

So you had a mob of people out there behaving completely irrationally. There grievances were imaginary. There only grievance was that Trump lost.

ETA: which, btw, was PVW's "strawman" point.

terp said:

No, you compared the monetary damages, and based on that expressed your disbelief that people were outraged by today's riot did not express the same outrage over looting (which, for the record, plenty of people, including me, said was not ok -- go ahead and use the search feature).

But if you want to know why people are upset here, then you should be comparing motivations. Trump lost the election and wishes he hadn't and the people who stormed the capitol building also wish he hadn't. They were seeking, via violence, to change the result of a democratic election. The people "with whom they had a gripe" are everyone who didn't vote the way they wanted. To spin this as some kind of legitimate grievance is to endorse the logic of civil war.

It is a classic strawman.  He is incorrectly stating an argument I'm not making and dismissing it as being ridiculous.

terp said:

LMFAO!

Edited.

Pointless.

also, I don't think anyone here is complaining about property damage to the Capitol as the reason they're upset at today's events. That you went there so quickly is, again, telling.

drummerboy said:

I might even say that was a strawman.

terp said:

Hardly - it's a distillation of your rationale for the mob's behavior. As I explained in my post, the only reason they're there is because their candidate lost.

Storm the capital.  You don’t seem to have much of an issue with it.

As an aside - I need to credit the Georgia libertarian for helping us to vote in warnock and possibly ossiff
