6-3. Only the Scalito/Thomas trio would have interpreted the law as an inadvertent denial of subsidies.
Justice Roberts wrote the Majority Opinion. He did not want to upset the legislative decision.
Fair Housing case was that you do not have to prove the intent of discrimination to prove the effects of an action are discriminatory. This is a "victory for civil rights groups." (Thanks to MSNBC.)

May be the best thing that could have happened for the GOP. Had the Court voted differently they would have been blasted for the ensuing chaos and the loss of subsidies for millions that need them. In addition they would have had the opportunity to turn Medicare into something I would seriously not like.
If, as some pundit are claiming, California is in trouble with ACA and insurance prices are going to zoom the act will be in trouble enough and Obama will get the blame.
That all remains to be seen.
Basically went with common sense. Said "plain meaning" argument had merit and law was inartfully written (decision mentions that 3 sections have the same designation) but on an overall basis the intent to expand healthcare affordability was clear.
It's a victory for "ordinary people." President will speak at 11:30 am from the Rose Garden. It places the President right up there next to FDR in national presidential history, for those of us who aren't in the top 1%.

A smart justice knows when to leave decisions to the legislative and executive branches. There are some decisions the SC should avoid even if technically under the purview of the court.
Most Republicans in Congress are secretly very pleased. They will not say so of course. But had subsidies been struck down it would have created a mess they would not have wanted to deal with and could not have dealt with. If you are happy with your healthcare and want to keep it indeed. People getting healthcare with subsidies through the Federal exchange are happy with things as they are.
Scalia and Thomas continue to prove that stupidity pervades even the Supreme Court.
8.5 million people are dependent on Obama care. Now people can't be "cut off" because their states don't "subscribe." You keep it, regardless of where you live, whether your state underwrites it, or not.

They still insist that the card says "Moops."

An important aspect of the ruling is that it is premised on the statute itself and not the agency's [IRS] interpretation. This means that a GOP president could not undo the subsidies by merely rescinding the interpretation. It will now require an act of Congress.

Thank you sir. September is our move out date. I'm crossing all of the t's and dotting the lowercase j's here. The gf is heading over in august to scout out a few places. Lawyer is checking out my licensing deals to make sure I still get paid. Hopefully i've timed it right so that I'm out of the country before all the ads for Clinton the 2nd and Bush the 3rd.
interesting that we had people on MOL arguing that the Congress clearly intended to "punish" states for not setting up exchanges, and yet 6 justices did not see it that way.

Moving to a place ,that from what I've been reading , has a system that is similar to here pre-ACA. The exchange is in my favor and has been for decades, so I'll actually be able to afford healthcare.

More importantly, it's good for the 11 million people on Obamacare.
"Some pundits" have been claiming that insurance costs would skyrocket since the moment Obama started planning it. So far, so wrong.

Increasing the pool of insured people is a huge factor in reducing the costs. The pool increased more than anyone predicted. It's still increasing. This is good news for everyone. It dismays me that people don't see how this is good. It is partisanship above facts.

What does that even mean?
I can't afford insurance based on the current laws and system. I'd like to see 40. I'm moving to a country where I can afford insurance and treat the condition I'll have for the rest of my life without going bankrupt.
