McConnell Demands Protection for Justices in Wake of Attempted Assassination of Kavanaugh

I don't really get this.  The GOP insists that the right to bear arms is a check on tyrannical government but then insists that the same government protect officials that gun owners might deem tyrannical.

To be clear, I am all for protecting the SCOTUS and their families, even complete scumbags like Kavanaugh. It's just the cognitive dissonance that gets to me.

It's because he is pro-life.

I was having a hard time not falling on the floor with laughter when I read that McConnell was complaining that the House was delaying and obstructing this legislation.

Patton Oswalt had a great tweet about this: JUST PUT ONE DOOR ON KAVANAUGH’S HOUSE AND ARM HIS FAMILY PROBLEM SOLVED

it's all a show. McConnell and McCarthy are smart enough and self-aware enough to see their own hypocrisy.

In a way, Biden dodged a bullet (so to speak) on this one.  It is hard to imagine the politics involved in replacing an assassinated SCOTUS justice when the White House is controlled  by a member of the other party.  I know what Mitch McConnel would do but I suspect that Biden would have felt compelled to appoint another member of the far right and that would have torn the Democratic Party apart.

As for Kavanaugh, thoughts and prayers my dude, thoughts and prayers.  One might hope that this brush with death would inspire a reappraisal of the guys position on handing out guns like they are candy but one might hope for a lot of things with this scumbag and always end up disappointed.

Which makes it worse. McConnell's delivery is casually transparent. He is unbothered enough to let us all know that he is aware that we are aware. But McCarthy's rage and indignation makes the audience wonder, if he is in fact delusional. Today's performance was noteworthy.
