Judge Ketanji Brown Jackson

We take her word for it.

What a novel concept -- let people define themselves rather than impose a definition on them.

Not smart enough to come up with something actually funny? Or do you keep repeating this theme because of issues you would like to work through?

it’s the “I identify as a” joke of the week.

We could of course kill the joke by taking it seriously. Identifying as vaccinated doesn't work because the question isn't one of identity, but one of function -- it's the effect of vaccination, and the effects of refusing vaccination, that matter. So if we take the "I identify as a function" joke seriously, applying it to gender, are people making this joke then saying that the definition of "woman" or "man" is about their functions? Which functions? We start veering into Handmaiden territory here... are "women" just a reproductive machine?

Conservatives often get upset if you accuse them of seeing women that way, so let's say that no, being a woman can't be about "function." Then what is a woman? Ah, now maybe it's not such a simple question after all. Sorry for killing the joke (not sorry).

I don't have the video, but the R's all filed out of chambers while the Dems were applauding the selection of the first Black female justice.

again, just classy all the way.

Stop it!  You don't need to be smart to comment on this board.

Anyhoo, I thought it was a silly answer to a stupid question.  Not so much a commentary on her, but on the overall discourse.

The only correct answer is, "That's a stupid question, Senator."

But the nominee cannot give that answer. So Judge (now Justice) Jackson gave a reply which said, "I am here to comment on the law and justice, not areas for which neither you nor I are qualified."

Romney stayed and clapped while the others filed out.

The first step is to admit that you have a problem.
