"I believe the person who wrote that is also Black."
Like that's suppose to make a difference? This is so reminiscent of who, how, and why some people get to use the "N" word. Just say'n the hypocrisy of some people is just amazing...
Pa-DOW!
I have just awarded you 10 anxiety free usages of the "n-word". I am Black (by at least half anyway) and according to recent changes in the bylaws I can do this so don't worry about a thing. Run right out and try it now. That's right Art you can use the "n-word". No more muttering "n-word" under your breath, repeating it silently as you walk away from a bunch of "n-words" or just thinking about how much you'd like to call somebody- anybody an "n-word". Since it's a holiday weekend I'll tack on 2 free "n-words for you. I'll have a messenger drop off the license this afternoon. It's laminated, put it in your wallet. You seem like an Android guy- good news, there's an app too- it keeps track of every usage. Don't go over your limit- there's a hefty fine as well as potentially messy social interactions we cannot be responsible for (read that disclaimer in the fine print before you sign). And most importantly, don't forget to show your card to anyone you call an "n-word".
Enjoy!
"Words hurt people every day, and did back then too. I was there. History is a pile of debris. Get past it."
"I was there." GL2, really that's so corny. If anything, you need to get past it pal. "History is a pile of debris." Really? Sometimes I have to wonder about whether some of you post stuff just to post.

Contrary to popular believe on MOL, I do care about a lot; and it's obviously, "Not Obvious To The Uninformed". I do have something substantive to say about this; and I would be happy to debate/discuss it with you; one on one, but not necessarily in this format. Emails and online forums are so difficult at times to make your positions clear.
If this thread has now turned into an embarrassment, don't blame me. If anything is an embarrassment, it's how posters put so much of their personal meaning into words. Wasn't it Obama who declared, "They're Just Words."
I know you're a thinker Art and I also know you enjoy saying outlandish things for effect. I get it. I like messing with you as much as you like messing with those "lefties".
I'd enjoy reading something substantive about what you think your OP was addressing. I am comfortable writing and expressing myself here and you should be too. Maybe step outside of your usual role and give it a shot.
If not, catch you next time
Art, do you think African Americans of your generation grew up in the same "world" you did?
I like you Flimbro, you're my kind of guy.
Obviously someone who can give it and take it, with a good sense of humor. Listen, one good turn deserves another. You've awarded me10 anxiety free usages of the "n-word"; (I don't use it, but I know of some who do.) In return I award you and your family a free night at the B&B and all the pancakes you can eat in the morning.
And most importantly, print my invitation; and if you don't use it give to anyone you think might like it... Enjoy!
Listen, I'd love to hang with you guys, but believe it or not i have business to take care of. I'm enjoying the banter and will respond later to the last two posts when I return. Ask Ridski, he'll confirm my promise to return... LOL
Art, it should go without saying, but it doesn't, so I'll say it. You're allowed to call Obama a half-breed, and you're allowed to insult him, but you seem to be oblivious to something: by using the term, you denigrate anyone who is obviously of mixed ethnic background. You imply that it is shameful to be of mixed background. You owe an apology to people who are not Obama whom you have insulted. I suspect you didn't mean to insult ordinary people. But you did. Own it. Apologize. Now.

Dave, is this earlier post and all the other pile on posts on Carson not disgusting?
"Like all the other modern Black Republican presidential candidates Ben Carson is half idiot and wildly entertaining. Last go round gave us cowboy hat wearing singer and pizza pimp Herman Cain who took pride in not knowing world leaders and naming things after numbers that he liked. Before him was personal favorite Alan "Crazy Eyes" Keyes who was pretty much just looney and scary- and then looney again. Now we have a neurosurgeon who is confused about laws passed by the legislature versus something he invented called "judicial law"."
I can comfortably say, I and the majority of African Americans do agree with that comment. As flimbro said,
“Carson et. al have nothing to offer and oddly as an inducement they always seem to insult the very constituency they’ve been tapped to appeal to.“
Many folks of color are not running to sign-up with the Republican Party. Lately, it’s become a party of embarrassment, inflitrated by the wacked-out right wing of its party. Gone are the days of Frederick Douglass, Mary McLeod Bethune, Jackie Robinson, Senator Edward Brooks, Martin Luther King, Jr. and even Harriet Tubman, who are rolling over with disgust on the direction there party has turned.
Some of these so-called conservative Republicans have turned their backs on General Colin Powell and pretty much threw Michael Steele (ex-Republican Party leader) under the bus. One upon a time, the Republican were more like what the Progressive are now.
Just SMH of what it has become now.
I'm still surprised that Mr. Ajc is still allowed to post here.
If someone thought posting "n*gger" was appropriate, I would hope that they would be shown out the door.
For what it's worth, the "half breed" son of my spouse's cousin is in medical school, and one day may be treating people such as Mr. Ajc. For his sake, hope Art doesn't ask for genetic information from his physician before consenting to treatment.
I have submitted a request to the proprietors of this message board, for information on what other denigrating, demeaning, and racist terms are considered acceptable and "not ban-able". If Mr. Ajc is not allowed to continue to post, I will withdraw that request.

It's reasonable for him to hope people will forget, too many people around here will.

Apparently, those "too many people" include the moderators of this message board.
They may take action, in which case I will apologize for including them in that category.

Yes, thank you Dave for posting that. It may be hard at times for me to separate my political passions from my more civic minded ones; however, the one and most important thing for the past 20 years that helps control me in that regard is the 4 Way test. I think it's worth re-posting again...
The Four-Way Test is a nonpartisan and nonsectarian ethical guide for Rotarians to use for their personal and professional relationships. The test has been translated into more than 100 languages, and Rotarians recite it at club meetings: BTW, in our club it's also nonpolitical. Like guns, your politics must be left at the door... ;-)
Of the things we think, say or do
1.Is it the TRUTH?
2.Is it FAIR to all concerned?
3.Will it build GOODWILL and BETTER FRIENDSHIPS?
4.Will it be BENEFICIAL to all concerned?
I'm not sure how many times I've reposted this, but I'm quite confident it won't be my last.

I don't care if he's permitted to continue posting here.
I took a look at Tripadvisor.com and found that Les Saisons has an impressive 13 excellent ratings out of 16. I wonder if any of those guests are aware of the hateful statements the owner is capable of making. Among the comments:
Art, the owner kindly stayed up late at night for my arrival and helped take my luggage up to my room. Art is the perfect host. He is very wise, caring, kind and helpful. He pays attention to details. He cooked delightful breakfasts. I enjoyed every chat with him Art has a big lovely house; inside is richly and beautifully...More
I can only assume this person was a purebreed.
"I wonder if any of those guests are aware of the hateful statements the owner is capable of making?
Red Barchetta, I wonder what you think you're doing when you start messing with my business; and with the Rotary 4 Way Test? Are you trying to turn my guests away, and put me out of business? Are you trying to belittle the 1.2 million Rotarian's around the world who try to live by the 4 Way Test? Do you really believe you'll look good by making me look bad? Think again pal.
And, Nohero, do you really think you're being appropriate by expanding the reference to the "N" word that way? Why don't you just band me, and stop reading my posts? I get all the hate in your comments, and see how just making insulting comments about me is not enough for you.
The two of you are a good example of the kettle calling the pot black. Going forward, get off my case and try restraining yourselves. Turn on the TV, read a book, take a walk, do something positive and think about this:
Today is the beginning of a new day. You're given this day to use as you will. You can waste it, or use it for good. Whatever you do is important. When tomorrow comes, today will be gone forever. In its place will be something you left behind. Try and make it something good.
Art, what would your customers think of the things you post on MOL? You seem pretty confident in your views. Would it bother you to see them posted on Yelp ?
I didn't, tell that to Red Barchetta who keeps using it as a means to attack me.
Setting high personal standards unfortunately turns out more often than not to be more ideal than real. For over 18 years I try my very best. I can handle all the personal attacks anyone can throw at me, but trying to hurt someones business, or to use the ideals of the 4 Way test is over the top; and IMHO, should be off limits.
"Art, what would your customers think of the things you post on MOL? You seem pretty confident in your views. Would it bother you to see them posted on Yelp ?"
Kthnry, I suspect like on MOL, some people would be turned off, and then there may be some who will respect my right to have an opinion. This is suppose to be the political soapbox, and not unlike the rest of you, this is the one place where we all should be able to express our personal political feelings. I don't express them at Rotary, the B&B, or at any inappropriate public place. I don't argue with my liberal children, and I certainly wouldn't argue with my wife who doesn't always agree with me.
And, FWIW, maybe someone can explain why so many of you continue to read my posts, and then cry and complain about how much you find them to be so disgusting, denigrating, demeaning, and racist? It's obvious from reading this board that the left far out hates the right. BTW, have any of you noticed how much the Clinton's and the Obama's lie? They really suck; and if like me you use your real name, you can go and post that on Yelp!!!
“I'd enjoy reading something substantive about what you think your OP was addressing.”
Dear Flimbro, you asked, I’ll answer… I first took noticed of Ben Carson when he gave his speech at the National Prayer Breakfast. I thought then, as I thought when I first heard Obama speak at the Democrat Nation Convention, that these were men who could make a positive difference for race relations in America. I also felt that way about Mike Tyson when he first became the Heavyweight Champion of the world.
For very personal reasons; I’ve always felt very strong about America’s terrible racist history, and how important it is for us to make it better. Tyson I thought would make such a positive role model for kids, and we see how that turned out. I didn’t vote for Obama because unlike the main street media, a majority of the voting public, including four of my five kids, most people failed to fully vet him.
After vetting Carson I became somewhat disenchanted with some of his social issues, and his lack of realistic goals. However, he still has many qualities millions of people, including myself still admire, thus I posted the thread to further vet him. Honestly, I’m amazed at the disrespect of him as a man. I didn’t think he would be so vilified on MOL by so many. Will I support him? No, I prefer two or three other candidates over him. Would I vote for him? Yes, if he were to receive the nomination. I hope you find my reply substantive enough…
but - you referred to the president in what many believe is a racist derogatory term - then you double down on it. You may want to just admit you picked the wrong term and move on.
And if you like a candidate who compares the US to Nazi Germany and thinks Obamacare is the worst thing since slavery. Then delve into that area a little more.
“Art, do you think African Americans of your generation grew up in the same "world" you did?”
Ligeti, that’s an interesting question, even thought the answer is obviously no. When I graduated Columbia HS in 1958, there were only three blacks in my graduating class, and I was good friends with all of them. I joined the US Navy and started a band that played all over Europe, countries through-out the Mediterranean, the Middle East, Turkey, Greece, Lebanon, Egypt, Africa Ethiopia; including Yemen, Pakistan, and India.
The band was called the USS Blandy Combo. There were four blacks and four whites. When I got out in 1960, I started my own business, got married, started my family; and the point is… at that time, in the circles I travelled, being a racist was not anything me and my family were exposed too. This was always true in school, in the service, and with my friends.
Of course as I got older, the sixties in many ways became another world. A world where by the time JFK, and MLK were murdered, it was like WTF is going on? Where the hell did all this hate come from? So for me, I have to say I was lucky enough to have walked between the rain drops. Blacks have always been my friends and a part of my life, but I’ve always been lucky this way. Thanks for asking…
ps: Thanks, you're right Jamie, I did pick the wrong term and will move on....
It's like fricking clockwork. You can set your watch to the walk-back. How ridiculous.
"ps: Thanks, you're right Jamie, I did pick the wrong term and will move on...."
What was the right term?
So, I guess using racist terms on MOL is now an acceptable practice. Good to know.
"I know this is way too far into a topic that you probably really care nothing about, so I'll stop here."
