Bari Weiss Poised to Ruin "60 Minutes"

Bari Weiss has overseen a significant decline in ratings for CBS Evening News and CBS Mornings.  Now she is turning her special talents to 60 Minutes.  Why not fix what's not broken.

CBS News editor-in-chief Bari Weiss is planning major changes to the network’s iconic “60 Minutes” program, according to a new report.

Weiss has privately told people she wants to revamp “60 Minutes,” one of the highest-rated TV news programs, journalist Oliver Darcy reported Tuesday in his Status newsletter. The award-winning show, which first aired in 1968, is known for its in-depth, investigative reports.

Weiss had been looking to make changes mid-season but following discussions with CBS News president Tom Cibrowski and other leaders, she agreed to wait until the show’s current season ends in May, according to the report.

The top editor is expected to “blow it up as soon as the season is over,” one source familiar with the issue told Darcy, while another staffer said that “no one knows what to expect.”

Details of Weiss’ vision remain unclear but she is expected to bring in new correspondents who are younger and more aligned with her editorially. She’s also playing an active role in decisions that typically fall to the program’s executive producer, such as staffing, Darcy reported.

Somehow, I missed that Bari shut down the radio division of CBS News.

CBS News will end its nearly 100-year-old radio news service and cut more jobs as part of a broader restructuring led by Editor-in-Chief Bari Weiss, according to internal memos sent to staff on Friday and reviewed by POLITICO.

Weiss and CBS News President Tom Cibrowski told staff the network will shutter its radio news service and eliminate all positions tied to it.

“Today, we informed our CBS News Radio team and approximately 700 affiliated stations that we will end the service on May 22, 2026,” Weiss and Cibrowski wrote. “Unfortunately, this decision means that all positions within the CBS News Radio team are being eliminated.”

The executives cited changes in the media landscape and financial pressures as driving the move. Affected employees will be notified by the end of the day.

This is delightful news! Oh how I look forward to cooking segments and tours of Hollywood stars’ homes conducted by the 60 Minutes correspondents!!  Maybe they can even do stories on celebrity pets and millennial fashion.  Can’t wait!

Good point.  Then maybe the new 60 Minutes can have Martha Stewart do a MAGA makeover of Steven Miller's  cave? Or Mom's for Liberty Co-Founder Bridget Ziegler and Pastor Jerry Falwell Jr. can show how to set up a threesome with a neighbor?   Or Michael Johnson can get a botox injection in his lips to enable him to really pucker up to kiss Trump's butt?  Or what about showing a video of homes, hospitals and schools in Gaza and Iran being blown up.  So many great ideas for MAGA segments.

I'm not a fan of hers, but Martha Stewart is not a Republican.

Paula Deen's probably available for a cooking segment.

CBS News editor-in-chief Bari Weiss’ reported massive overhaul of 60 Minutes has been described as an “earthquake-like event.” And she is steeling herself for a massive revolt from the show’s staff.

According to Oliver Darcy’s Status newsletter, Weiss is eyeing significant changes to the long-running news program, which reportedly includes the removal of 60 Minutes‘ executive producer, Tanya Simon. As previously reported, Simon’s year-long contract is expected to be up soon.

However, CBS News staffers told Status that if Simon is let go, Weiss could have a revolt on her hands. “It would be an earthquake-like event,” said one staffer. “If Tanya goes, you can expect others to leave.”

Another staffer added, “Anyone familiar with the dynamics at 60 Minutes knows that putting on a weekly investigative news program that consistently makes money, finds an audience, and breaks meaningful news is very difficult—add on an unsupportive corporate overlord and near-constant leaks about your demise, and it’s near impossible.”

it would not surprise me one bit that's Weiss's deliberate intention

The bloodletting has started.  Weiss fired the executive producer, executive editor, and two correspondents.  Today there was a contentious meeting between staff and the new executive producer.

60 Minutes correspondent Scott Pelley accuses Bari Weiss of ‘murdering’ show

Pelley reportedly rebuked CBS ousting show’s executive producer, executive editor and two top correspondents

Apparently there was another meeting today with Pelley, Weiss, Bilton, and Tom Cibrowski. It didn’t go well.

Pelley was fired “for cause” by the end of the day.
