Bob Iger keeps coming back to Disney like Jason Voorhees. He's retired as many times as The Eagles at this point.
But IMHO it's extreme partisanship that keeps a lot of these people in the Senate. As long as no Republican primaries Mitch McConnell, he's going back to the Senate. The majority of Kentucky voters are never going to send a Democrat to the Senate.
It's similar in CA, but probably to a lesser extent. It's conceivable that voters there might select a Schwarzenegger type Republican over a Democrat if she/he were obviously impaired. But it's not that likely.
as far as myself, I'd vote for anyone or anything with a D next to its name for Senate. I don't love every Democrat, but I don't want to see what a majority Republican Congress would do if we also had a Republican president. I think we can look at FL over the past year or so as a precedent.
Pelosi, at this point, has gone from being an illustration of the problem to a counterexample. She was one of the most effective Speakers, but by the end her staying on was preventing the rise of the next generation of leaders. Now, though, she's still active as a legislator but she has given up the role of Speaker.
By all means, people should keep involved and active as long as they are able, but it's a problem when they refuse to move out of leadership positions and prevent the next generation from rising. Part of good leadership is nurturing one's successors, and this is where I feel our gerontocracy is failing.
One good thing about Biden’s age is his experience in world affairs. He’s known all of the leaders of countries that are authoritarian, he knows how to deal with them. If his only problems are wires on the floor and steep staircases, then he’s still the best option to deal with the global problems we face. His age and experience are definitely a big factor in my decision to vote for him again, I will vote straight line democrat. Period.

Biden is very experienced and would make a great advisor, maybe in the Cabinet. But he's too old to be POTUS. No one in their 80s should be POTUS.
That said, I'm voting for him regardless of his physical or mental condition. The alternative is horrifying.

Yeah, I will vote straight democrat. That would be the only factor in my decision to vote for Biden.
I just wish people would stop saying Biden is the worst candidate. He’s not. And continuing to harp on his age and his cognitive abilities. The American people will prove you wrong again come next year. I just have no time for pessimism and hand wringing. The only polls that matter is the ones that come out on election night. Enough said. Trump and his MAGATs will lose their siht in 2024. I will enjoy watching them implode.

I'm not sure who is saying Biden is the worst candidate. Trump has that honor all locked up.
That said, you can make progressives vote for the lesser of how ever many evils year after year but you can't make them like it.
It’s this back and forth that makes me fed up. You know I’m talking about the Democrats when I’m talking about the worst candidate. When you say he’s the “last on your list”… that kinda says he’s the worst candidate. I’m not even thinking about trump. We’re discussing Democrats and why Biden should retire. Sheesh

He was, in my opinion, the worst of the A list primary challengers in 2020. I understand that you felt differently. I would love to see him step aside while there is still time and I think this is an issue that all Democrats should be discussing. This is a democratic party, after all, if most members think he shouldn't run, he should bow to the will of the people.

"Step aside" is only one part of the equation. Who will "step up"?
That's the question for the primary. For the general election, the question is not, "Is Joe Biden too old?" The question is, "Given the choice between Old Joe Biden and the GOP nominee (Trump or a Trumpish substitute), who should it be?"

If it's a Trumpish substitute, we are well and truly screwed.
Put someone who can run a mile in under a week on a debate stage next to Joe Biden and you can kiss our country goodbye.
Pro Biden folks argue that he is the only man who can beat Trump and maybe that is true but it overlooks the fact that the only candidate that Biden can beat is Trump(maybe).
Ever so slightly tangential yet related to coverage: woohoo!! Rupert’s actually stepping down!!! [or something like that] Winds of change may start to blow…

With an old fart like Rupert, I’m happy the winds will blow and take him way down south…
He’s not coming back here (he rarely visited even when his mum was alive, and she was well over 100 years when she died. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Elisabeth_Murdoch_(philanthropist)

Mixed feelings. Apparently Lachlan is even worse.
*Snort* yeah, when he started. Everything has changed since then, and he’s instigated a lot of the worst changes. (At one stage his companies were planning to print daily news - including for regional areas - in New Zealand then fly them to Australia for distribution. Because, you know, centralised computing = financial savings with fewer staff to pay. Umm, hello???!!! I think he tried it for a year, lost a bundle $$$$ and started winding up titles instead.

Trump edges out Biden 51-42 in head-to-head matchup: POLL
President Joe Biden's job approval rating is 19 points underwater, his ratings for handling the economy and immigration are at career lows. A record number of Americans say they've become worse off under his presidency, three-quarters say he's too old for another term and Donald Trump is looking better in retrospect -- all severe challenges for Biden in his reelection campaign ahead.Forty-four percent of Americans in the latest ABC News/Washington Post poll say they've gotten worse off financially under Biden's presidency, the most for any president in ABC/Post polls since 1986. Just 37% approve of his job performance, while 56% disapprove. Still fewer approve of Biden's performance on the economy, 30%.
On handling immigration at the U.S.-Mexico border, Biden's rating is even lower, with 23% approval. In terms of intensity of sentiment, 20% strongly approve of his work overall, while 45% strongly disapprove. And the 74% who say he's too old for a second term is up 6 percentage points since May. Views that Trump is too old also are up, but to 50% in this poll, produced for ABC by Langer Research Associates.

As long as Rupert is alive, he's still in charge. He holds the controlling vote of the family trust which owns 39.6% and he owns 40.1% on his own.

Trump leading Biden by 10 points; amongst older white Americans who answer landline phones during dinner hours.
MT still has a landline. This makes the most sense.
I'll vote for Biden. He's done a fairly good job. But I also want older politicians to step aside so younger folks can gain experience. The issue with choosing Biden or another Democrat is that it's too late. The who elses would have had to be in prominent junior positions for the last several years so that we would know about them. But they have been kept down by old senators and representatives. As it is, I dismiss physical frailties as unimportant. FDR led the country from a wheelchair. His mental acuity seems fine for now. He also has the good sense to have a professional staff, as opposed to yes men.
as far as polls go, I don't think Biden has really started campaigning yet. But it is about time to start.

Dianne Feinstein is dead at 90.
It will be interesting to see who is appointed to fill out her term. It had been assumed that Newsome would appoint 77 year old Barbara Lee, thus creating a smooth transition from the frying pan to the fire, but, over the weekend, he said he wouldn't appoint anyone who was running for the position in 2024.

Political observers said the February announcement that Feinstein would retire next year, and now the rookie mistake of putting a campaign in the hands of an estate, could hurt her chances.
A Babylon Bee editor, meanwhile, issued a public apology for “in the wake of.” Then he repeated it.
"Feinstein's reliable left-wing voting record"
Only in America could the record of Dianne Feinstein, the Senator who never met a clear cut she didn't love, be considered "left wing".

Some historians think that FDR wasn’t at his best in 1944/45 when dealing with Stalin.
