looks pretty minor through my window.  Maybe 2 or 3 inches?

More than that.  Compacted on sidewalks.  Higher accumulation on driveway where snow started sticking earlier.  Easy to move but go slow since it is very heavy.

How are the roads? Glenside in SO is perfectly fine. I still think a 2 hour delay woulda been fine, but maybe there are worse roads around.

My neighbor, an early riser and shoveler, said the fresh snow total on our block was about 4".  It was no more than 2" when I got out there around 7 a.m.  That's a pretty fast sag.

Maybe closer to 6 inches on the grass.  There was a lot of melting on pavements.  Sidewalks were a pain because the plows pushed snow onto the sidewalks.

We got about 8 inches in Morristown (I live on a hill above the town).  And being the Luddite* I am, I still do not have a snow blower, although I do have a long driveway to shovel--and it keeps getting longer every year!

I was out at 5:30 AM and it was already very slushy under the top layers.  It was the type of snow that when you start brushing off your car it slides easily off in enormous chunks.  It was the type of snow that when you toss it off the driveway it sticks exactly where it lands, plop.  It was the type of snow where my neighbors using snow blowers had to stop every five feet and unclog the chutes.

Took two hours, but glad to give the sun a chance to warm up the blacktop and dry it out as best it can.  Unfortunately whatever melt off remains tonight is going to freeze, and it looks like cold weather for the next few days and nights.
*And I am cheap, so I don't hire people; and I like the workout, at least until the next morning.

we got 7” or so in Westfield but the roads have been perfectly clear since we got out and shoveled at 8am or so.

So this lovely day is the last time the temperature will be above freezing until Friday. Anything left today will be here all week, so keep that in mind if you are watching it melt and hoping....

According to this map, we are on the 6" line, and this morning at 7:00 I measured 5.2" but there had almost certainly been some settling after the snow stopped around 3:00.

In case you're bored and wondering, official snow measurement is done from a hard white surface placed on the cleared ground.  In other words, I have a wooden board, painted white, in an area of the yard with no overhanging trees or shelter.  To be official, the measurement has to be made as close to the end of the snowfall as possible.  I also take a core sample and melt it.  Today's core was 0.72", so a yield of about 7:1.  Heavy, wet snow.  At a more likely actual snowfall of 6", the yield only rises to 8:1, so still heavy and wet.
